Security Industry Association (SIA) member LiveView Technologies provides security solutions in the most remote locations – founded in 2005, it was one of the first remote video solutions providers in the United States. The company has since expanded in both products and services to meet the growing demands of all industries in need of video surveillance; LiveView is headquartered in its new 35,000-square-foot facility in Orem, Utah.
SIA spoke with LiveView’s Michael Studdert about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.
SIA: Tell us the story of your company.
Michael Studdert: LiveView was founded in 2005 by Ryan Porter and Bob Brenner. As seasoned financiers in the construction industry, the founders were looking for an easy and intuitive solution to watch construction projects remotely. The products in the space at that time seemed antiquated and outdated – and LiveView Technologies was born. LiveView’s early focus was based on 3 pillars:
- How to move data via cellular connectivity as efficiently and cost effective as possible
- How to push technology further on the “edge” using solar power
- How to engage the end user in the most user-friendly and easily accessible cloud platform.
Fast forward 15 years, and LiveView has rapid deployment off-grid security solutions coast to coast in markets ranging from big box retail to state and federal government, critical infrastructure, oil and gas and more.
What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?
MS: We specialize in providing full security solutions in the most remote locations. “Remote” can mean on the side of a mountain road in Colorado or downtown New York City – any place that has limited access to power or communication link.
LiveView’s focus has been on technology from day one. None of us come from the traditional security market. For the most part, our background is in enterprise computing, which has allowed us to look at the current deficits in the security market and develop cutting-edge solutions from a different perspective. Our technologies are unique in that we are an A-Z solution: we manage your bandwidth, we provide a true cloud VMS with proprietary archiving, and we offer full thermal-based alerting with monitoring, all for a low monthly fee. We are completely hardware agnostic and can add any sensory input into our platform, so if we don’t already build it, we can. Our team consists of welders and programmers – it’s a bit of “West Coast Choppers” meets Google.
What’s something we might not know about your company – or something new you’re doing in security?
MS: We are changing the way people look at manned guards. By adding thermal, radar, lidar or any other sensory input, we can augment guard services to make them go further.
SIA: What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership?
MS: Because of our relationship with SIA, we’ve begun to better understand the security markets through expos and networking events. SIA has been a great help to us in navigating the security space.
