ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Security Industry Association (SIA) announced today that Representative Pete King (R-NY) will be a keynote speaker at the SIA Government Summit on June 20 at 9:00 a.m.

The SIA Government Summit is the premier public policy conference in the security industry and will be held June 19-20 at the Embassy Suites Washington Convention Center Hotel in Washington DC.

Rep. King is Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and also serves on the Financial Services Committee and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Congressman King is a leader in the ongoing effort to have Homeland Security funding based on threat analysis and is a strong supporter of the war against international terrorism, both at home and abroad. As Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee he has led the fight to continue funding to the Secure the Cities Program to protect the New York-Long Island region from nuclear dirty bomb attacks.

The New York Daily News has said that "Pete King is as knowledgeable as they come about terrorism and the need for emergency preparedness," while the New York Post has credited Rep. King as being "smart and solid and a long time student of terrorism and homeland security matters." Newsday has said that Congressman King is a "stand-up guy who isn’t shy about tangling with the powerful, even those in his own party. King has become a national figure who delivers for the region and his district."

“Chairman King is a recognized authority on terrorism, emergency preparedness and issues surrounding Homeland Security funding,” said Don Erickson, SIA’s CEO. “His insights on these and other issues will be one of the highlights of this year’s Summit.”

The SIA Government Summit will kick off Monday, June 18 with the Congressional Reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Rayburn Foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building. Opening remarks on the 19th will be followed by panel discussions on post 9-11 procurement; public safety from an end-user perspective; the future of access and ID management; securing the smart grid; a briefing on contracting and procurement within the defense and intelligence communities; and connecting with state and local government.
