ISC West Delivers Increased Attendance and Continues to Help Grow the Industry

Security Industry Association (SIA)

2017 Show Debuted New Feature Areas Showcasing the Convergence of Physical Security, Cyber Security, IoT, Drones & Robots

As the final numbers rolled in for ISC West 2017, attendance has once again surpassed expectations, increasing by 3 percent and maintaining ISC’s place as THE largest security industry trade show in the United States. ISC West, sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), reported attendance numbers of over 30,000 industry professionals convening at the Sands Expo last week to gather and grow the industry. This record-breaking attendance is attributed to the expanding areas designed to match industry needs and align with emerging market trends.

New this year, ISC West took to the air introducing the first ever Unmanned Security Expo @ ISC West (USE). Unmanned Security Expo quickly became the hottest area on the Show Floor as energy buzzed around Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Ground Robotics & Vehicles (UGVs) and the various software and applications that support (and detect) them. With 30 leading companies exhibiting, participants got a first-hand look at the future of security. Creating a totally immersive experience, Unmanned Security Expo also included free educational sessions in a Theater on the Show Floor, complete with a fly-net that allowed UAVs and ground robots to do live demos.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Exhibit Hall, Connected Security Expo @ ISC West (CSE) focused on building a holistic security strategy for the connected enterprise and included vendors that bridge the gap between physical and information security to mitigate new and emerging cyber threats. CSE also featured two dedicated tracks of education as a part of the SIA Education@ISC conference program. The area attracted a bevy of new attendees including the CIO of the US Navy, Google, Facebook and many more high-profile end-users.

Out in the Main Lobby, the SIA New Product Showcase (NPS) saw the largest number of submissions in program history with over 120 entries. In addition to honoring the Best New Product and the Judges’ Choice Award, the NPS judges presented awards in over 30 product and service categories, and also presented honorable mention awards in three categories.

CrucialTrak’s Biometric Access Control System was awarded the Best New Product at the NPS Awards Ceremony held on April 5th, with Hydra’s Thermal Impairing Radar taking the Judges’ Choice Award. Other winners included SHARP Robotics, an Unmanned Security Expo exhibitor, whose INTELLOS ground robot took the top prize in the Law Enforcement/Guarding Systems category, as well as Right Crowd Software Essentials, a Connected Security Expo exhibitor, who won in the Integrated Software and Solutions category.

ISC West, in conjunction with SIA Education@ISC, expanded educational offerings this year to include 75+ sessions, while ISC also produced the free Unmanned Security Expo sessions and Vendor Solution sessions located both on and off the Show Floor. Kicking off the conference program for 2017 to a standing room only audience, was Philip A. Celestini, Section Chief of the FBI Cyber Security Division, who remarked on behalf of ISC.

Celestini stated, “It was a genuine pleasure to have had the opportunity to speak about the FBI’s Cyber Program at such an important event at ISC West.  Direct engagement with the private sector industries, that so often are the primary targets in cyberspace, is a vital part of the Bureau’s continuing efforts to partner with the American people in mitigating the many threats attempting to reach us through malicious online activity.  We are your FBI and we want to help everyone better understand those threats so that we can work together to reduce them.”

Conferees continued to spend the next few mornings educating themselves on the future of physical security, cyber security, IoT and more, while spending their afternoons perusing the ISC WEST Show Floor of over 1,000 exhibitors, including 200+ new to the Show. The ISC closing keynote for 2017 featured Matthew Rosenquist, a cybersecurity strategist with Intel Corp, who spoke on How Cyber-Attacks are Changing the Expectations of Security, Privacy, and Safety, and who rounded out the three-day education program.

In addition to the features in the Exhibit Hall, ISC hosted a full lineup of industry-leading special events further expanding the camaraderie that is critical to the industry. Held on the second day of ISC West, the 8th annual Security 5K Run/2K Walk raised more than $125,000 to support Mission 500, an organization that supports children and communities in crisis.

Other events included:

  • The 14th Annual AIREF Golf Tournament to benefit the Alarm Industry Research & Education Foundation
  • The SAMMY, MVP & Hall of Fame Awards presented by Security Sales & Integration
  • Six new inductees into the SSI Hall of Fame
  • The SIA Market Leaders Reception
  • Security Dealer & Integrator magazine’s Fast 50 Awards
  • The 1st Annual Latin American Breakfast
  • The Public Safety Luncheon, hosted by CAA, NSA & the Las Vegas Security Chiefs
  • And much more

SIA CEO Don Erickson said it best: “ISC West 2017 was the most exciting trade show in recent memory. From SIA’s networking receptions to SIA Education sessions to the trade show floor, I consistently heard from attendees that the show was providing them with tremendous value. The Security Industry Association saw unprecedented demand for its services, and people were clearly very happy with the programming and traffic. Undoubtedly, ISC East 2017 in New York and ISC West 2018 will capitalize on this buzz.”

Reed Exhibitions’ Group VP, Security Portfolio, Will Wise also commented that “ISC West’s success is a result of the community’s dedication to security. The market is taking note and responding strongly to ISC covering the integrated security ecosystem across physical and cyber security & the fast developing stimulants of IoT and AI. We look forward to keeping a close pulse on the key market trends along with our valued Association sponsor SIA, and our inspirational exhibitors, attendees, speakers and media & analysts community.”
