Issue: Critical Infrastructure Protection

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provides non-disaster FEMA grants to state and local governments as well as private entities to prevent, mitigate and respond to terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure – often by utilizing security technology.

SIA Position:

The federal government has a clear responsibility to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure, shared with state and local jurisdictions. SIA opposes cuts to non-disaster FEMA grants, such as the Administration’s proposed fiscal 2018 budget which would reduce such federal assistance by $1 billion, more than 33 percent from current levels.
