Issue: Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS

Autonomous robotics are increasingly relied upon for smarter security by complementing – not replacing – traditional security practitioners, guards and other personnel and systems. The industry is adding capabilities to provide UAS and counter-UAS technologies for government and commercial security, critical infrastructure protection and public safety purposes.

SIA Position:

SIA supports addressing outdated regulations and legal uncertainties which have hindered adoption of UAS and counter-UAS technology for these purposes.

SIA Position Statements:

Co-Sponsor: Preventing Emerging Threats Act

SIA supports S. 2836, the Preventing Emerging Threats Act of 2018 (Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.), which allows the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Justice and their component agencies to administer a counter-UAS program and use this technology in protecting critical assets and performing certain missions.
