The Third Revolution in Mobile Services: Near Field Communication

Experts address the impact of NFC technology on physical security

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A panel of leading experts has been assembled to explore how Near Field Communication technology is revolutionizing mobile services and is expected to change the physical security industry. The discussion, titled The Third Revolution in Mobile Services: Near Field Communication, is part of the ISC West Conference taking place on March 29, 2012, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in room 502 at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology is ushering in the “third revolution” in the world of mobile services by allowing mobile devices to interact with the physical world. Using short-range radio to send and receive data to and from mobile devices, NFC is making life easier and more convenient for consumers around the world by making it simpler to make transactions, exchange digital content, and connect electronic devices with a touch.

NFC applications abound and consumers around the world are embracing the ease with which NFC simplifies everyday transactions, like buying a cup of coffee, reserving a car, or checking in and out of a hotel room. It is estimated that by 2015 half of all smartphones will be NFC enabled, but questions remain.

How is NFC technology altering the physical security landscape now? What’s coming and how can you prepare? Will consumers find the prospect of putting one’s entire wallet in a mobile device too daunting? How are NFC-enabled devices being used to seamlessly conduct business across the country and around the world? Join moderator Chris Corum of AVISIAN Inc. and leading NFC experts from HID Global, Gartner and Identive Group as they address these critical questions and discuss various applications of NFC technology.

The session is part of the ISC West Signature Series, three plenary discussions that explore key industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices. The Signature Series is part of the ISC Premier Education Series, the conference developed by the ISC Education Advisory Board.
The other two Signature Series Sessions are: The State of the Industry: Where Are We Headed? — a plenary discussion being held March 28 from 8:30-9:45 a.m.; and the SIA New Product Showcase Winners’ Forum, which will take place on Thursday, March 29 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. All three Signature Series sessions will be held in room 502 and are open to all expo and conference badge holders at no cost. Pre-registration is not required.
