SIA to Host Event with Congressional School Safety Caucus

The security industry is ready to work with lawmakers to address the security needs of schools.

Silver Spring, Md. — The Security Industry Association (SIA) will host a panel discussion, “Challenges and Opportunities to Protect and Ensure Safety for America’s Schools,” in cooperation with the Congressional School Safety Caucus on Wednesday, March 2, from 12-1:30 p.m. at B-338 Rayburn House Office Building. Press is welcome to attend the panel discussion, which includes lunch.

The tentative agenda for the event includes opening remarks from Reps. Susan Brooks, R-Ind., and Rick Larsen, D-Wash., co-chairs of the Congressional School Safety Caucus.

The discussion panel consists of school safety and security experts:

  • Timothy Eckersley, SIA Board Member and Allegion PLC, Moderator
  • Dr. Erroll G. Southers, University of Southern (USC) California
  • Dr. Paula Maurer, Superintendent, Southwestern Consolidated School Corporation, Indiana
  • Robin Lambert, Rural School, and Community Trust

“The Congressional School Safety Caucus brings together key stakeholders to explore how our country’s leaders can help protect our nation’s most important asset—our children—while they’re at school,” said Tim Eckersley, SIA Board Director and Allegion Senior Vice President and President of the Americas. “This is an important step to improving school infrastructure, and the security industry is ready to work with lawmakers to address the very real security needs of schools. The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer period and finally closing remarks from John Chwat of the Electronic Security Association (ESA).
