Security Industry Association (SIA)

The Security Industry Association (SIA) welcomes aboard digital security giant Gemalto, with U.S. headquarters in Austin, Texas.

We chatted with Amy McKeown, U.S. Field Marketing Manager, Biometrics, Gemalto, about her role at the company and Gemalto’s engagement with SIA activities and events. For more info, visit the company’s website at www.gemalto.com.

How did you get into the security industry?

I joined 3M Company in 2012, just as the organization was completing an acquisition of Federal Signals Technologies. The acquisition included many security products, and I was assigned to lead integration efforts for a portion of the business. Through that role, I became ingrained in the interworking of the security and law enforcement technology industries and have since held roles of increasing responsibility across automatic license plate readers, electronic monitoring, document reader authentication and biometrics.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

As a Field Marketer, I have the unique opportunity to travel often and visit with customers and our sales managers. I get to see our technologies in use often and can provide valuable feedback to our development teams ensuring our customers’ needs and desires are understood for future product and technology advancements.

What’s your company’s biggest challenge right now?

With the recent acquisition of 3M’s Identity Management Business by Gemalto, our business is focused on integrating our technologies and businesses to provide more value to our global customers.

What trends does your company foresee for the security industry in the next year?

Integration of technologies will become much more prevalent. As more technology vendors merge and partner together, turnkey security suites are going to become more accessible and affordable.

What does your organization receive from membership in SIA? How do you plan to be active in the association in the near future?

SIA provides Gemalto with valuable insights into governmental security grants as well as pending legislative changes that affect our business’ success. We hope to become more active in SIA Working Groups to provide biometric and security technologies input in the future.

Will your company participate in an upcoming event with SIA such as ISC West, New Product Showcase or Government Summit? If so, what aspect of the event appeals most to your company?

We have participated in all three events in the past and will continue to participate in the future. ISC West is very important to our business as we move into the commercial security space and find valuable partners in this space.
