SIA Releases Latest Version of Architectural Graphics Standard for Security System Layout

Silver Spring, Md.—The Security Industry Association (SIA) today released the latest Architectural Graphics Standard CAD Symbols for Security System Layout, also known as AG-01, v. 3.1.

The standard comes as a joint effort between SIA and the International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC). It is meant to be used by architects, engineers, building contractors and security managers to produce planning drawings for building projects.

“AG-01 v. 3.1 is the latest example of SIA providing products and programing that delivers value to industry stakeholders in architecture and engineering,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “These critically important updates help to ensure that buildings are properly designed with all of the appropriate considerations for the latest security technology. AG-01 also represented another great product of the strong partnership between SIA and the International Association of Professional Security Consultants, who provide invaluable insight to the security industry.”

This latest release is compatible with graphics programs including Visio, Auto CAD, PDF and DWG layers. The project was completed by the SIA Architectural Graphics Subcommittee, chaired by Andrew Sova of ASSA ABLOY.

Sova and about a dozen other volunteers added symbols that represent new and enhanced technologies such as imaging technology, HDMI ports, millimeter-wave detection and others. The working group also devised an editable attribute structure that enhances usability and supports proper spacing and facilitates simplification of plans.

The revised standard will be available in the SIA Store on Dec. 19. It includes the PDF standard with the symbols and guidelines for use and a zipped graphics package that contains the symbol files.
