Securing New Ground to Explore the Digital Frontiers of Physical Security

The Security Industry Association (SIA) is gearing up for its annual executive conference, Securing New Ground (SNG), and we’re looking forward to an exciting lineup of discussions on the security business trends that matter most. One of the featured panel sessions at SNG 2018 – The Digital Frontiers of Physical Security – will explore the way security is changing in the age of digital innovation.

Digital business moves at a faster pace than legacy business processes, and traditional security approaches designed for maximum control will no longer work in the new era of digital innovation. Moderator Michael Foynes, senior director of global operations at Microsoft, and panelists Phil Halpin, senior vice president and head of global security at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.; David McGowan, vice president of global protection at Tiffany & Company; and Johnson Controls’ director of data enabled solutions, Steve Schattmaier, will identify how they see the future of the Internet of Things (IoT), manage data networks and deal with the impact of rapid industry consolidation as they meet the new demands on security, technology and people management.

Other potential topics and trends for discussion include the 2017 and 2018 Security Megatrends (including the booming growth of IoT, cloud computing, the convergence of cyber and physical security, “mobile everything,” the evolution of risk management and integrating with social media), artificial intelligence, machine learning, the impact of Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation on security businesses, unified identity management, intelligent platforms and how technological growth might present challenges to roles and/or business functions that security companies have traditionally held. Panelists will address opportunities and challenges like the megatrends they are dealing with right now, new trends that will impact security businesses and how to handle them, the biggest risks to security operations and how to address the disruption of technology.
