New Security Industry Association (SIA) member HyperSpike provides the industry with products featuring innovative sound technology that are used in diverse applications such as crowd control, mass notification, border/port security, law enforcement, maritime security and perimeter protection. The company is headquartered in Columbia City, Indiana, and distributes security solutions globally.

SIA spoke with Heather Lutton, marketing communications and product manager at HyperSpike, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

HL: HyperSpike was born out of collaboration between Indiana-based Ultra USSI and a local area entrepreneur and inventor with a passion for acoustics. With the backbone of Ultra USSI DoD and life-safety manufacturing and business management, and the acoustic consultation of Curt Graber of Wattre, Inc., the HyperSpike brand of products has earned a reputation as a leader in notification technology.

Originally focused on long-range acoustic hailing devices and deterrents, typically used in perimeter protection and naval vessel applications, HyperSpike built a reputation for dependable and highly intelligible communication. Gaining the attention and respect of the U.S. Army, a HyperSpike technology was selected as the “sense and warn” component of the Counter-Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (C-RAM) program. As a result, over 2,500 systems have been deployed to remote operations around the globe. This system saves warfighters’ lives and is now the cornerstone of the HyperSpike mission to build dependable and intelligible communication for the fire, life safety and security markets. We strive daily to develop cutting-edge technology that ensures emergency messages are heard and understood.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

HL: HyperSpike has a reputation in the security market for military, critical infrastructure and naval high-power acoustic hailing solutions. When walking the ISC West show floor two years ago, we quickly recognized a lack of intelligible wide-area acoustics for paging and general notification systems. As a result, HyperSpike has evolved our successful fire and life safety solutions into Power over Ethernet network-addressable wide-area notification systems for the commercial security market.

What’s something we might not know about your company – or something new you’re doing in security?
