SIA Statement on the Conflict in Ukraine

Security Industry Association (SIA)

As an organization that stands firmly behind the importance of integrity and respect for human life, the Security Industry Association (SIA) stands in support of the Ukrainian community and supports the U.S. government’s actions taken as a response to Russia’s incursion in the Ukraine that is in direct conflict with international law.

We fully support the U.S. government’s resolve in drawing the line between business and integrity while supporting democratic acts of expression. We also point to the SIA member code of ethics, which calls for SIA members to “refuse to knowingly design, manufacture, sell or deploy products, services or solutions that have been finally determined by any supranational, national, federal, state or local governmental authority or any self-regulatory entity, whether foreign or domestic, having competent jurisdiction over the applicable member organization to support the infliction of human rights abuses, the restriction of civil liberties, and/or the implementation of other oppressive measures.”

We urge all SIA members to be particularly mindful of the cybersecurity impact that this conflict could have on all U.S. companies, particularly those responsible for protecting critical infrastructure. We share concern we have for the safety of any SIA member employees and family members of employees who are in this region and affected by this conflict. We extend our appreciation to the many talented security professionals who are tracking the situation and responding to protect their employees and their organizations’ operations in the Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
