Security Industry Association Announces Details for 11th Annual National Capital Region Security Forum Charity Golf Tournament

Join SIA NCRSF for a charity golf outing Oct. 7 in the D.C. area; tournament benefits the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Brain Injury Recovery
SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Security Industry Association (SIA) National Capital Region Security Forum (NCRSF) – a community of leading Washington, D.C.-area security professionals representing industry and government – has revealed the details for its 11th annual charity golf tournament. The event will take place Monday, Oct. 7, at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia. Proceeds from the annual golf outing will support the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Brain Injury Recovery.
Each year, the SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament raises funds for the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an internationally recognized institution located in Baltimore, Maryland, and dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with pediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system. To date, the annual tournament has raised over $500,000 in donations toward the center’s brain injury research, patient transition efforts from hospital to home and urgently needed wheelchairs.
“SIA is pleased to host the SIA National Capital Region Security Forum’s charity golf tournament in its 11th year. This fun, enriching event gathers the region’s security professionals for lively networking and golf while supporting the work of the Kennedy Krieger team, which is leading the way in traumatic brain injury research and care for children and adolescents,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “I am grateful for our NCRSF community and the industry’s generosity and commitment to giving back, and we look forward to building on that effort in this year’s event.”
The SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament was established in 2014 to support longtime SIA NCRSF member David Sawczuk following his family’s life-changing rehabilitation experiences with the institute. In 2007, Sawczuk’s son Benjamin – who was eight years old at the time – was struck by a car while riding his bicycle alongside a road. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for 23 days before undergoing months of extensive rehab therapy with the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s pediatric brain injury program and making a healthy recovery. After completing inpatient rehabilitation at Kennedy Krieger, Ben attended the institute’s Specialized Transition Program, a neurorehabilitation day hospital, for seven months. Ben went on to graduate from high school, then college – exceeding all expectations and prognoses.
