State Legislative Update: 2024 Legislation Impacting the Security Industry

With most state legislative sessions across the United States now adjourned for the year, here are key outcomes on myriad issues that security industry leaders and companies should be paying close attention to. The Security Industry Association (SIA) government relations staff and volunteers work diligently throughout the year on efforts that matter to our members and impact the safety of citizens, at the federal, state and local levels. During state legislative sessions, SIA tracked over 250 introduced bills of interest, engaged with lawmakers in 14 states and provided public testimony on more than 20 different measures. It is critical that the security industry continues to participate as a key stakeholder in policymaking affecting solutions providers and end users, as preparations are made for next year’s state legislative sessions following the 2024 elections. In the meantime, here are highlights from this year’s sessions relevant to the industry.
