SIA Women in Security Forum Scholarship Spotlight: Erin Wilson, dormakaba

Erin Wilson, learning strategist, influencers at dormakaba Americas, has built a career marked by continuous learning, leadership and a commitment to strengthening the security industry. Through the support of the Security Industry Association (SIA) Women in Security Forum (WISF) Scholarship, she has continued investing in professional growth while helping create opportunities for others. We spoke with Erin about her journey, the impact of the scholarship and advice for the next generation of women in security.

Tell us about yourself and your career journey. 

Erin Wilson: I’ve been in the security industry for over 30 years, and I have frequently been the only woman in the room. 

How did receiving the WISF Scholarship impact your career? 

EW: It allowed me to take some artificial intelligence courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, giving me background knowledge to utilize AI and improve efficiency. 

What advice would you give to women building a career in security? 

EW: It is very rewarding. There is more to it than most people think. It is not only about security guards—it is about making a difference in the everyday lives of everyday people. 

How can the industry better support women? 

EW: Give stretch assignments, support women’s needs as they are very different from men’s needs.
