SIA New Member Profile: ATS Integrated Solutions

SIA New Member Profile: ATS Andrew Boreing, sales manager

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member ATS Integrated Solutions provides building automation, control, security, analytics and energy management solutions. The company is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and proudly serves customers across Kentucky and Indiana.

SIA spoke with Andrew Boreing, security sales manager at ATS Integrated Solutions, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Andrew Boreing: ATS Integrated Solutions carries forward the legacy of ECT Services, a Louisville-based company founded in 1981 around energy conservation, electronic controls and helping facility owners operate better buildings. What began as a practical, relationship-driven business focused on reducing energy use and improving building performance grew into a trusted building integration technology firm serving commercial, educational, health care, government and other facility-intensive customers.

The company’s path into security was a natural extension of its controls and integration work. Longstanding customers trusted the team to solve complex facility challenges and security became another essential building system where engineering, installation, programming, training and service support could make a measurable difference. In 2023, ECT Services joined the ATS family and became ATS Integrated Solutions, combining a deeply rooted local team with the broader resources, technical depth and best practices of ATS – Engineered Building Systems.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

AB: ATS Integrated Solutions provides planning, engineering, installation, integration, training, ongoing service and performance management for security systems. Our offerings include access control, video surveillance, video analytics, digital video recording and retrieval, intercom and emergency communications, ID badging, intrusion detection, networked security applications, electronic asset tracking and protection, biometric and smart-card technologies, turnstiles, door hardware, custom software development and integration and other security solutions tailored to each facility.

What makes ATS Integrated Solutions unique is our ability to connect security with the broader building environment. We are not only a security contractor—we are a building integration technology partner with deep experience in building automation, controls, energy management, facility analytics, operational technology and ongoing service. That perspective helps customers implement security solutions that are dependable, maintainable and aligned with how their facilities actually operate.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

AB: One thing people may not realize is that ATS Integrated Solutions grew from an energy conservation and building controls background before expanding into security. That history gives our team a practical, systems-oriented approach: we look at security not as a collection of standalone devices, but as part of the larger building ecosystem that supports safety, efficiency, comfort and continuity.

A major area of focus for us is the continued convergence of security, smart building systems, facility analytics and operational technology. Customers increasingly want access control, video, alarms, building automation and service data to work together in ways that help their teams respond faster, make better decisions and operate facilities more securely and efficiently.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

AB: Our vision is to be a trusted market leader in building technologies by providing excellent people, engineered solutions, service support and products. In security, that means helping customers move beyond siloed systems toward integrated, reliable solutions that improve both protection and operations.

Our goal for the security industry is to help elevate security as an essential part of smart building performance. We believe the industry can deliver greater value when security systems are designed with the same long-term thinking customers expect from their building automation, energy and operational technology investments: safe, sustainable, maintainable and supported throughout the life of the facility.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

AB: The biggest opportunity is the convergence of physical security, building automation, analytics and operational technology. Security systems generate important data, and when that data is integrated with other facility systems, it can support faster response, better situational awareness, improved operational decisions and a stronger overall risk posture.

We also see significant opportunity in cloud-enabled platforms, mobile credentials, video analytics, remote support and life-cycle services. Customers are looking for solutions that are easier to manage, easier to scale and more valuable over time. Integrators who can combine technical expertise with practical facility knowledge will be well positioned to help organizations make the most of these changes.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

AB: In the short term, we expect continued growth in integrated access control, video surveillance, mobile credentials, analytics and cloud-connected management tools. Customers will continue to ask for systems that are more flexible, more cyber-aware and easier for facility and security teams to administer across multiple sites.

Long term, we believe security will become an even more central layer of the smart building environment. The most successful solutions will be those that can connect security, operational technology, building controls, analytics and service workflows in a secure and interoperable way. The industry will also need to keep investing in workforce development so teams can design, deploy and support increasingly connected systems.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

AB: One major challenge is the growing complexity of facility technology. Many customers operate a mix of legacy systems, modern IP-based platforms, cloud tools, building automation systems and IT/operational technology networks. Bringing those systems together securely and reliably takes thoughtful design, strong coordination and ongoing service support.

Another challenge is helping customers evaluate security investments beyond first cost. The best solution is not always the lowest initial price—it is the solution that can be maintained, adapted and trusted over time. As an industry, we also face the ongoing need to attract and train technical talent who understand both security and the broader building technology environment.

What do you most enjoy about working at your company—and in the security industry?

AB: What we enjoy most is the tangible impact our work has on people and facilities. Security and building technology may be complex behind the scenes, but the outcome is simple: safer spaces, more confident facility teams, better operational visibility and buildings that work the way customers need them to work.

We also enjoy the relationship-driven nature of the industry. Many of our projects require close collaboration with owners, facility managers, IT teams, contractors, consultants and manufacturer partners. Solving those challenges together and then supporting customers for the long term is one of the most rewarding parts of our work.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company, and what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

AB: SIA offers an important connection to the broader security industry, including education, networking, standards, market insight, events and access to leading manufacturers, integrators, consultants and technology partners. For ATS Integrated Solutions, that connection is valuable because our customers depend on us to stay current on the technologies, practices and trends shaping the future of security.

Through our SIA membership, we hope to deepen industry relationships, expand training and professional development opportunities for our team, stay engaged with emerging technologies and contribute to conversations that move the industry forward. We are especially interested in learning from peers and sharing our perspective as a company that operates at the intersection of security and smart building technologies.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

AB: Over the next year, ATS Integrated Solutions plans to engage with SIA through member resources, educational programs, webinars, industry events and networking opportunities. We are interested in using SIA resources to support team development and to stay informed about standards, technology trends and best practices across the security industry.

We also plan to explore opportunities to participate in committees, working groups or other forums where we can learn from industry peers and contribute our experience in building integration, facility technology and security systems. Our goal is to be an active member that both benefits from and contributes to the SIA community.

ATS Integrated Solutions would welcome the opportunity to highlight how security and smart building technologies are increasingly working together.
