New Security Industry Association (SIA) member BluOcean Security delivers technology-driven and human-centric security solutions to organizations. The company is headquartered in Singapore and operates through a growing network of regional offices and local teams across the Asia-Pacific, with locations in China, Hong Kong, India, Australia, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines and an additional presence in Los Angeles, California.

SIA spoke with Avichai Sery, co-founder and chief technology officer at BluOcean Security, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Avichai Sery: BluOcean Security was founded in Singapore in 2018 by a group of security industry veterans who had been delivering complex security projects across Asia since the late 1900s. My co-founders—Effie Chen, Ron Efron and Leo Luo—and I saw an opportunity to build a different kind of security company centered around exceptional service and a hands-on team of diversified skills.

With firsthand experience working in the Asia-Pacific, we built a company that combines emerging technology and cloud-based security with disciplined project management and a strong focus on people.

The BluOcean name reflects the idea of creating new value rather than competing solely in a competitive market. Today, BluOcean Security remains guided by the founding principles of dependable project management, quality security service deliveries and long-term client relationships.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

AS: BluOcean provides full security integration services: consulting and advisory, systems integration, embedded security services and cloud-enabled security as a service. BluOcean supports the full life cycle of security solutions from assessments, system designs, procurement, installation and after-sales services.

What makes BluOcean different is how our regional teams work together. All stakeholders from account managers to project managers, engineers and security specialists work closely to build understanding of the client’s organization across multiple sites and locations, creating synergy between BluOcean and client teams that foster long-term relationships.

Our accounts-based approach encourages detailed documentation, regular communication and a strong sense of project ownership at every stage. This allows BluOcean to operate with agility while delivering consistent security solutions to our global clients.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

AS: One initiative we are working on this year is the BluOcean Talks podcast. It focuses on the people, technologies and ideas shaping security across Asia-Pacific. Through conversations with security leaders, tech experts and industry specialist, we explore topics ranging from cloud security, access control, school safety and the realities of operating security-related businesses in diverse regional markets.

The podcast is part of a broader effort to contribute to the industry beyond our day-to-day projects. Asia-Pacific has its own security challenges, priorities and market. We believe those perspectives deserve more space in the wider conversation, and the podcast serves as a platform for experts to discuss what they’re seeing in real time and share insights.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

AS: Ultimately, our goal is to keep pushing the industry forward and evolve with our client needs. We hope to help clients adopt new technologies and cloud-based security solutions seamlessly, while withholding a strong reputation for excellent project management, quality security services and supportive long-term support.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

AS: One of the biggest opportunities is the rapid growth of data centers and other critical digital infrastructure. As artificial intelligence adoption increases, so does the demand for facilities that can support it. These sites require highly reliable physical security, access control and monitoring. This creates opportunities to deploy more technology and design integrated systems that can scale with complex facilities.

We also see significant regional opportunities across the Asia-Pacific. Continued economic growth and expanding multinational operations are increasing the need for security services that can work consistently across multiple markets. For the industry, the opportunity is to combine regional standards with local expertise. Conversely, it provides businesses the opportunity to transfer best practices learned in the region more broadly.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

AS: In the short term, we expect more organizations to migrate toward cloud-based security solutions as they continue to look for leaner, more flexible and centralized management across multiple sites.

In the long term, AI and machine learning will play a much larger role in how security systems operate. Though the exact impact of AI is still unfolding, it will likely influence how security systems detect, prioritize and respond to risks. The challenges will be how the industry adopts these tools thoughtfully, combining automation with human judgment.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others int he security industry?

AS: The biggest challenge is proving industry value as technology evolves. AI may change how clients view and implement security operations, but its long-term impact is still taking shape. The challenges are to help clients adopt new technological tools and continue to provide robust security solutions in tandem with human experience.

With that said, one of the biggest challenges for BluOcean is finding and developing people who combine both strong technical qualifications with equally strong service skills. Security projects depend on both technical knowledge and the ability to understand a client’s operational needs. For us, team development is increasingly important.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company—and in the security industry?

AS: What we enjoy most is working as part of a team that brings together different backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. Because BluOcean operates across the Asia-Pacific, we are constantly learning more colleagues and clients, whether it’s about business culture, local expectations or best practices.

There is also a strong sense of purpose in the security industry. Our work contributes to protecting organizations, the people with them and the communities they serve. Being able to solve practical challenges for people makes the work more meaningful.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

AS: SIA provides BluOcean the opportunity to participate more actively in the wider security industry, learn from peers and gain insight into emerging trends and challenges. It is also a great platform for BluOcean to forge new connections and identify opportunities to contribute to the industry’s continued growth.
