Veteran Hill staffer brings expert knowledge on public policy, federal acquisition
Silver Spring, Md. — The Security Industry Association (SIA) has appointed Jake Parker as its director of government relations, SIA CEO Don Erickson announced today.
Parker previously served for more than 12 years in various capacities on Capitol Hill, most recently working as legislative director for Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
“Jake’s constituent-oriented advocacy approach will provide SIA members with insightful information about emerging public policy issues impacting the government marketplace and various vertical markets,” Erickson said. “As SIA advocates for SIA members before regulatory and legislative bodies, we will benefit from Jake’s ability to listen to the needs of members and translate that information into tangible results. He is widely recognized for his skills in understanding complex public policy issues, interpreting the federal appropriations process and following up quickly on stakeholder requests while bringing a serious and substantive approach to his responsibilities.”
In the coming months, SIA will weigh in on issues including chemical facility security, school safety and security, border security, government acquisition processes and others.
Parker holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Tennessee Temple University, a Master’s degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University and a graduate diploma in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
