SIA to Honor John Convy, Shené Commodore with Statesman Award at SIA Public Policy Dinner

Security Industry Association (SIA)

The Statesman Award, presented in conjunction with the SIA Government Summit, represents outstanding contributions to advocating for the security industry before government decision makers.

Silver Spring, Md. — The Security Industry Association (SIA) will honor two of its members with the SIA Statesman Award during the SIA Public Policy Dinner on June 3, SIA announced today.

Established in 2006, the Statesman Award is an annual award presented by SIA to an individual (or individuals) who makes an extraordinary contribution of professional time, leadership and resources to position SIA to address the public policy challenges impacting the electronic physical security industry.

This year’s recipients:

  • John Convy of Convy Associates. A longtime advocate of SIA and its Government Relations program, Convy has been instrumental in promoting the annual Government Summit and content development.
  • Shené Commodore of Intertek. Commodore is an active participant in SIA Government Relations Working Groups. She frequently contributes to SIA publications and has testified on behalf of SIA before Congress.

“I am truly excited and honored to recognize these professionals and their work to represent the security industry before government decision makers as SIA advocates for the interests of our members,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “Both John and Shené epitomize the tireless, hardworking experts found throughout our member companies, and I thank them for their great work on behalf of the SIA and the industry.”

At the SIA Public Policy Dinner, which immediately follows the first day of the SIA Government Summit on June 3, SIA also will present a salute to Women in Homeland Security, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded by Kristina Tanasichuk, and its contributions to increasing diversity in the security industry. Women in Homeland Security, established in March 2009 as a professional organization for women committed to working in the field of homeland security and combating terrorism, has grown to nearly 3,500 public- and private-sector members. Through monthly meetings, book clubs, education courses and charity work, Women in Homeland Security fosters a collaborative environment for homeland security professionals to improve our nation’s security and intelligence on critical homeland security topics confronting the nation.

The SIA Public Policy Dinner is open only to registered attendees of the SIA Government Summit. Registration for the 2014 SIA Government Summit is open at https://www.securityindustry.org/summit.
