SIA New Member Profile: BCDVideo

Security Industry Association (SIA)

Welcome aboard, BCDVideo!

As a new member of the Security Industry Association (SIA), BCDVideo, Northbrook, Illinois, adds the power of a leading video surveillance storage manufacturer for security integrators to our ranks. We chatted with BCDVideo CEO and President Jeff Burgess to explore the company’s background and motivations. For more about the company, visit www.bcdvideo.com.

How did you get into the security industry?

BCDVideo was founded in 1999 as Burgess Computer Decisions Inc. (BCD), an IT reseller building high-availability servers for Fortune 500 companies. The founder has been in the IT marketplace since 1979. In early 2008, a chance meeting led to an entry into the video surveillance marketplace, bringing an IT infrastructure and engineering high-availability server products to seamlessly record digital cameras.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Innovation and Purpose. We are always innovating new technology and new products, all with the purpose of preserving justice.

What’s your company’s biggest challenge right now?

The continual evolution of technology and staying ahead of it without having “technology for technology’s sake.” We want our products to have a purpose, not the other way around.

What trends does your company foresee for the security industry in the next year?

A continuing emphasis on cyber protection within the systems and across the video network. Larger and larger storage requirements based upon longer retention times—both commercially and government-mandated.

What does your organization receive from membership in SIA?

SIA allows us to take a leadership role in the security industry and participate in the development and promotion of industry standards. We are a very innovative technology organization and want to network and collaborate with the other members to provide the latest technologies and deliver collaborative solutions.

How do you plan to be active in the association in the near future?

We plan to actively participate in committees and event sponsorships.

Will your company participate in an upcoming event with SIA such as ISC West, New Product Showcase or Government Summit?

We will participate in ISC West, SIA GovSummit, SIA Honors Night and possibly even an entry in the SIA New Product Showcase.

What aspect of these events appeals most to your company?

A key driver is the ability to network with industry colleagues and elevate the awareness of our organization as an innovative technology leader and to be part of the next generation of security solutions. Our best products have always come as a result of a particular project need, the gap in the marketplace or a collaboration with another partner to create a joint solution.
