SIA Recognizes Jack Hanagriff with 2020 Insightful Practitioner Award

2020 SIA Insightful Practitioner Award Recipient Jack Hanagriff, City of Houston

Hanagriff recognized for his work at City of Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security

The Security Industry Association (SIA) is pleased to announce that it will present the 2020 Insightful Practitioner Award to Jack Hanagriff, infrastructure protection coordinator with the City of Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security.

Hanagriff, who has nearly four decades of experience in public safety, security and law enforcement, is being honored for his work developing plans and programs to protect facilities and events in Houston, as well as his efforts to partner with the security technology industry. He is a member of the SIA Public Safety Interest Group, has participated in multiple SIA and ISC webinars and educational sessions, and has launched a program that brings together security technology providers and Houston-area practitioners in order to more effectively address challenges related to crime and terrorism.

“Practitioners and vendors need to work together to keep people safe and facilities secure during these challenging times,” Hanagriff said. “I’d like to thank SIA for this award, and I hope it helps others to see the great value that can result from moving beyond customer-vendor relationships to achieve productive partnerships. These trusted partners are a great asset in providing a service to our communities by supporting public safety needs.”

SIA CEO Don Erickson lauded Hanagriff’s forward-thinking approach to securing high-profile sites and events, such as activities surrounding Super Bowl LI.

“It is easy for security practitioners – or anybody, really – to get stuck in a pattern of doing things the way they have always been done, but Jack avoids that trap,” Erickson said. “He is always seeking out not only new approaches and new technologies, but also new ways of working with the security industry. SIA is proud to and fortunate to have the opportunity to team up with him on so many projects.”

The Insightful Practitioner Award is presented to a security practitioner who demonstrates leadership and excellence in promoting the implementation of innovative security solutions through education, advocacy and teamwork with the security industry and other stakeholders.

The award is usually presented during the SIA Honors Night awards dinner in New York during ISC East, but because of the pandemic, this year’s presentation will take place during the online ISC East Awards Ceremony on Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. ET.
