SIA New Member Profile: 3B Protection

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member 3B Protection offers turnkey solutions to provide effective protection against a multitude of real-life threats. The company is headquartered in Tequesta, Florida, with an office in California and manufacturing facilities across the United States, allowing a nationwide reach.

SIA spoke with Ashley Dillon, vice president at 3B Protection, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company and about the solutions and services your business offers in the security industry.

Ashley Dillon: 3B Protection was founded by President and CEO Dominic Dillon in the United Kingdom in 2008. Dominic owned and operated his own concrete company for many years when one of his regular clients asked for a product that could provide shudder and shock capabilities. Dominic then began research and development on new mix designs which incorporated recycled materials. After spending a few years testing different mix designs, Dominic finally settled on a new material that had the properties he and his client were looking for. Dominic then began thinking about what other applications this new mix design could be used for, and that’s when he decided to test its ballistic and blast capabilities.

Due to the lack of ballistic testing facilities in the UK, Dominic then decided to take his new material to a NATO test program in Belgium where it went through vigorous testing which it passed and became a NATO-approved vendor. Once 3B became a NATO-approved vendor and the brand began gaining recognition for its superior blast and ballistic capabilities, Dominic then took his product to many war torn countries that needed protection. Seeing a gap in the market, Dominic then decided to bring 3B to the United States in 2017 where it underwent UL level testing, as well as high-speed fragmentation, live blast and fire testing.

What’s something we might not know about your company – or something new you’re doing in security?

AD: What makes 3B so unique is that not only does it hold NIJ and UL level certification, but it has also devised its own RLS (Real Life Situations) testing protocol that far exceeds any standard certification showcasing 3B’s capability of absorbing thousands of rounds of live fire.

Previously focusing on the military and government sector, Dominic decided to bring 3B to the commercial market primarily focusing on utilities. The utility sector has been a great fit for 3B’s product range of ballistic and blast walls, gates and doors. Although 3B is known for their perimeter walls, 3B also offers a retrofit system for previously constructed buildings or can construct whole buildings using a tilt up system.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

AD: What SIA offers that is most important to 3B is its knowledge and ability to learn to keep up with market demands. Security concerns and standards are ever changing, and SIA is a great tool to learn what modifications we need to make as a company to be in compliance.
