Security Industry Association Releases 2026 Revision to DC-09 Standard

Updated Digital Communication Protocol: DC-09-2026 Released!

The newly released DC-09 version, an ANSI-approved standard for open and interoperable IP alarm transmission, features enhanced security and simplified deployment.

SILVER SPRING, Md.— The Security Industry Association (SIA) has released the 2026 revision of the SIA DC-09 standard—the trusted standard for secure IP-based communication between intrusion systems and monitoring centers.

SIA DC-09 is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-approved standard for open and interoperable IP alarm transmission. The standard enables a secure, supervised connection between alarm systems and monitoring center receivers. SIA DC-09 has become the globally recognized standard adopted by the leading manufacturers of intrusion panels and alarm communication devices.

Key success factors and updates in the 2026 version include:

  • ANSI approval
  • Autocommissioning capabilities to simplify deployment
  • Encryption key rotation for stronger long-term cybersecurity
  • Overall security enhancements aligned with current threat environments
  • Additional use cases and visual examples to improve implementation clarity
  • Continued backward compatibility, preserving support for legacy formats

“This revision of SIA DC-09 enhances security and simplifies deployment while maintaining backward compatibility,” said Boris Stern, chair of the SIA Intrusion Subcommittee. “It reflects the industry’s continued commitment to open, interoperable and secure alarm communication.”

SIA’s Intrusion Subcommittee recently released a Java-based open-source library for the ANSI/SIA DC-09 protocol. This initiative gives developers and solution providers direct access to a robust foundation for building next-generation alarm communication systems—with fewer integration hurdles and more consistent results.

SIA DC-09-2026 can be purchased through the SIA online store for $50 for SIA members and $200 for nonmembers.

The SIA Intrusion Subcommittee maintains and promotes standards dealing with residential and commercial intrusion panels and communication between protected premises and monitoring stations. This subcommittee serves as the primary editor of CP-01 and the SIA DC family of standards. Learn more about the subcommittee and see its latest resources, activities and updates here.
