SIA Member Profile: iotcomms.io Robert Arcon, chief commercial officer

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member iotcomms.io offers cloud communications APIs for critical enterprise solutions. The company is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with customers globally across Europe, the United States and Latin America.

SIA spoke with Robert Arcon, chief commercial officer at iotcomms.io, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Robert Arcon: iotcomms.io was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2018, with a clear understanding of a growing challenge facing technology and solution providers: how to build the communications infrastructure needed to embed reliable alarm, voice and video into their solutions without having to become telecom experts themselves.

Devices, people and processes become increasingly connected adding pressure on the underlying communication infrastructure. This is an area of complex telecom technology and pressure is put on internal research and development organizations to develop faster and more cost efficiently. With deep expertise in session initiation protocol (SIP), voice over IP (VoIP) and alarm and security communication protocols, iotcomms.io provides the cloud-based communication infrastructure that solution providers can build on.

Our communication APIs and as-a-service model remove the complexity involved in developing and operating critical communication infrastructure, enabling solution providers to integrate alarm, voice and video communication into their applications, devices and platforms without handling the underlying communication and protocol complexity themselves.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

RA: iotcomms.io’s cloud services provides the communication infrastructure required for critical alarm, voice and video communication. The services provide the essential communication and interoperability functions required to ensure that emergency communications are securely and reliably delivered—from connected devices, sensors and panels to the response or monitoring system.

Our services enable solution providers to embed standardized voice and video communication and support a wide range of alarm and security protocols in their devices, platforms and applications. The as-a-Service model reduces the need for customers to invest in specialized telecom expertise, infrastructure and development resources.

iotcomms.io’s services are built specifically for critical communication and helps security and alarm solution providers build services and applications that are secure, reliable and at global scale.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

RA: With deep roots in SIP standardization and telecommunications, iotcomms.io brings extensive expertise in solving complex communication challenges across the security and critical communications industry. Our services address demanding use cases such as real-time call recording, streaming voice calls to AI-powered analytics and connecting smart speakers like Amazon Alexa to private and public networks and alarm response centers.

iotcomms.io focuses on solving real problems critical to our customers’ business, for example the transition from analog to digital alarm communication. An example from elevator emergency communication is our conversion of analog elevator alarm protocols—P100 and CPC to SIA-DCS. By converting legacy communication protocols to IP-based protocols, iotcomms.io helps customers modernize existing solutions while protecting their investments in installed equipment.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

RA: Becoming a SIA member is a natural step for iotcomms.io and reflects our growing engagement in the security industry and our commitment to contributing to the development of critical communication solutions.

SIA provides a unique global community where leading companies and industry experts come together to share knowledge, insights and perspectives on the challenges shaping the security industry. We see this as an excellent opportunity to contribute our expertise in communication infrastructure, SIP, VoIP and alarm protocol interoperability, while gaining valuable insight from other industry leaders.

Through our SIA membership, we hope to increase awareness of how cloud-based communication services can help security solution providers address the growing complexity of connected devices, legacy systems and evolving communication requirements. At the same time, we look forward to building relationships, exchanging ideas and contributing to the continued development of a more connected, interoperable and future-ready security industry.
