A Chat With Keith W. Cohick, CSPM

Security Industry Association (SIA)

Keith W. Cohick, CPP, PSP, CSPM, Exclusive Project Manager and Director of Compliance at Advanced Digital Solutions LLC, recertified his standing with the Security Industry Association (SIA) as a Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM®) recently, and he shared his thoughts on the value of the credential in a chat with SIA Director of Education Kimberly Roberts.

How did you hear about the CSPM certification?

In 2012, I was asked to look into certifications that would apply to project managers in the security field.  I started searching around and the first that came up was PMP.  I felt that didn’t really apply to the industry specifically enough.  I continued to search and found SIA offered the CSPM certification

Why did you pursue the CSPM certification?

I felt that the industry was going the way of certifications and felt this was need to make myself more marketable and to gain knowledge in areas that I was lacking as a Security Project Manager.

Why was THIS credential the one to obtain for your career?

This credential is specifically built around the security industry, as PMP is a more general credential.  Not to say that PMP is not on my list to accomplish in the future!

What was the application process like?  What is more challenging than other industry credentials?

The application process is in line with other certifications.

How did you prepare to sit for the CSPM exam?

I took my exam in a different era, where we took the class in DC and took the exam on the last day.
