2017 Lippert Award Presented to John Stroia

SIA to salute immediate past chairman at SIA Honors Night on Nov. 15.

Silver Spring, Md. —The Security Industry Association (SIA) today announced the selection of John Stroia, President, Hamilton Security, a Gunnebo Company, to receive the 2017 George R. Lippert Memorial Award.

Since 2008, Stroia has held various volunteer leadership positions with SIA—most importantly he’s the immediate past SIA Chairman of the Board. Stroia’s term as SIA Chairman was marked by a keen focus on oversight of the Board Strategic Framework, principally in the areas of education, membership growth and collaboration. He furthered SIA’s collaboration goals and encouraged new relationships between SIA and numerous industry and academic organizations, increasing SIA membership 42 percent during his tenure as chairman. Stroia chaired the SIA Government Relations Committee from 2008-2012 and was recognized in 2010 with the SIA Committee Chair of the Year Award. He also served as SIA’s representative on the board of SIAC from 2014-2016. As a leader on the SIA Executive Committee, he helped to oversee significant growth in SIA programming, particularly regarding its advocacy efforts.

The SIA Lippert Award Committee, composed of previous recipients of the Lippert Award, chose Stroia from a field of nominees.

“I have had the privilege of working with so many talented and dedicated professionals who have contributed much to this unique and special industry. I am both honored and humbled to be recognized among these peers,” said Stroia. “The work we do, protecting people and assets, is important. It has been rewarding to give back to an industry that has done much for me. I thank the award committee, the Security Industry Association and its current Chairman Denis Hebert for this recognition, and I look forward to doing much more for the security industry in the future.”

“John Stroia is a true gentleman and outstanding representative of the security industry. His contributions are many but those to the Security Industry Association are second to none,” said SIA Chairman Denis Hebert. “Thanks to John’s leadership, SIA and the security industry are stronger than ever, and we look forward to benefiting from his leadership for many more years to come.”

Stroia has a long record of driving growth and improving profitability in large security and IT international companies. He is a 24-year veteran of the security industry, most recently serving as vice president of sales operations and marketing for Giesecke and Devrient North America, a provider of currency management and mobile security solutions. Previously, he held several senior management positions with The Will-Burt Co. and Diebold. Stroia’s past roles include leading acquisitions, divestitures, and partnerships and driving value-based strategic initiatives.

The Lippert Award, founded in 1989, is named in honor of George R. Lippert, who dedicated more than 20 years of his life to the security industry and SIA. When evaluating candidates nominated for the award, the SIA Lippert Award Committee considered their long-term service to SIA and the security industry, the impact of their efforts on behalf of SIA and the industry, and their integrity, leadership and diplomacy as demonstrated in industry dealings.

SIA will present Stroia with the 2017 Lippert Award during the SIA Honors Night gala at The Current at Chelsea Piers in New York, New York, on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Click here to register to attend.
