Opposition to New Hampshire Digital Fair Repair Act

SIA opposition to Hawaii SB 425

On Feb. 5, 2019, the Security Industry Association (SIA) submitted its opposition to New Hampshire HB 462, the Digital Fair Repair Act.

SIA’s primary concerns include mandating original equipment manufacturers to disclose proprietary source code, diagnostic and repair information to independent repair providers, placing the security and cybersecurity condition of certain equipment into a precarious state and jeopardizing warranty policies that have long proven to benefit and protect consumers. Additionally, SIA criticized the overly broad and vague definition of “digital electronic product,” which seemingly encompasses all digital electronic equipment.

SIA has also recently joined other organizations in signing coalition letters on right to repair bills in Hawaii, North DakotaVermont and South Dakota.
