Following The Advance, the Security Industry Association’s (SIA’s) membership meeting held annually at ISC West, SIA Chairman Scott Schafer sat down with us to record a video updating SIA members on the state of the association and key accomplishments in 2018 and early 2019.
Schafer notes that the association has solid financial footing and strong participation from member companies and that in 2018 and 2019, the organization has seen increased efforts in areas in workforce development, diversity and development of young professionals, with an overall focus on inclusiveness.
The chairman also pointed to significant advocacy wins in the areas of tax reform, school security grants and power for life-safety systems, and he noted well-received resources on security robotics, state contracting and school security best practices. The association was also noted for launching Cyber:Secured Forum in partnership with ISC Security Events and PSA Security Network. The new conference couples with a number of new publications and informational documents helping to address the need for greater cybersecurity education within the converged security industry.
