The globally recognized program will honor innovative women guiding the biometrics and security industry during the 2022 SIA GovSummit.

SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Security Industry Association (SIA) has opened the call for nominations for the 2022 Women in Biometrics Awards, a globally recognized program presented by SIA with support from sponsors AVISIAN, Biometric Update, FindBiometrics, IDEMIA, Paravision and SIA’s Identity & Biometric Technology Advisory Board and Women in Security Forum. The recipients of this year’s Women in Biometrics Awards will be honored at the 2022 SIA GovSummit, SIA’s annual government security conference.

The call for nominations comes on March 8, International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and presenting a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. SIA supports International Women’s Day and will celebrate the day and its 2022 theme by encouraging its members and the larger security industry to work to forge women’s equality and #BreakTheBias.

“Each year, the Women in Biometrics Awards honor outstanding women at the forefront of the biometrics industry who are driving innovations that help keep our cities, workplaces, schools and people safe,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “SIA is pleased to mark International Women’s Day by calling our members and the security industry to recognize the dedicated, inspiring female leaders helping to advance this vital technology market.”

The Women in Biometrics Awards recognize top female leaders in the biometric identity and security industry. Nominees and past winners include those working for biometric companies, peripheral suppliers, system integrators, academia, government and security and IT departments at a variety of organizations in the United States and internationally.

Each nominee should exemplify one or more of the following contributions to the industry:

  • Leadership: Substantive and defining leadership in academic, public awareness, legislative and/or standards efforts
  • Participation: Efforts that go above and beyond individual company walls and into the larger identity sphere
  • Innovation: Pioneering product development, innovation or corporate startup efforts
  • Mentoring: Industry involvement sharing expertise and mentoring peers, thus growing the market

“IDEMIA is honored to play a role in SIA’s 2022 Women in Biometrics Awards, supporting inclusivity and diversity across our industry.  IDEMIA encourages all security solution providers to get involved by submitting nominations for the award,” said IDEMIA Vice President of Innovation and Client Engagement Teresa Wu. “This award reinforces that diversity in the workplace leads to innovation and advances women into leadership roles, contributing to an inclusive and high-performing biometric and identity community.”

Nominations for the 2022 SIA Women in Biometrics Awards program will be accepted until Friday, April 15. A jury including previous award winners will select this year’s honorees. Learn more and submit a nomination here.
