In Memoriam: Ted Curtin

SIA In Memoriam Curtin, Repworks

The Security Industry Association mourns the loss of Ted Curtin, who passed away last month at home following a battle with cancer.

Theodore “Ted” Michael Curtin, CPP, CPMR, 78, was the owner and operator of Repworks Inc. in South Hadley, Massachusetts, for 38 years. He was esteemed among peers for his exceptional knowledge and expertise in the industry. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served with distinction during the Vietnam War.

Ted was recognized in 2018 with the Security Industry Association’s Sandy Jones Volunteer of the Year Award along with Joel Schwartz for their joint efforts to create a home for security manufacturers’ representative firms within SIA. Curtin’s firm, Repworks Inc., was one of the first rep firms to join SIA, and Curtin was a leader of the effort to create and grow the rep firm community within SIA and spearheaded the creation of special membership pricing that allowed rep firms to join SIA as associate members. The group gathered for informal meetings at the SIA booth at ISC West shows, and as the number of rep firms grew within SIA, Curtin and collaborators like Schwartz led the development of an online guide to security manufacturer’s representative firms on the SIA website.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Edward Curtin and Mary (O’Rourke) Harnois; stepfather, John Harnois, and his cherished wife, Darlene Curtin. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his three children: Bryndis Curtin of Belchertown (Bryndis is also active in the security industry with Repworks Inc.); Mary Vieira and husband Michael of Ludlow; and Tom Curtin and wife Emily of South Hadley. Ted was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren.
