Industry Feedback Needed on New Tariff Rates

On July 9, 2025, President Trump posted a series of letters sent to countries subject to reciprocal tariff rates that will be imposed on their exports to the United States starting on Aug. 1. This follows his administration’s announcement that they have extended their deadline for countries to make trade deals with the U.S. to avoid the higher rates. In some cases, the threatened rates are the same as they were announced on April 4. Others have been slightly modified, as shown in the comparison here:
Country | April 4 Rate | New July 9 Rate | Difference |
Japan | 24% | 25% | +1% |
Korea | 25% | 25% | no change |
South Africa | 30% | 30% | no change |
Kazakhstan | 27% | 25% | – 2% |
Laos | 48% | 40% | – 8% |
Malaysia | 24% | 25% | + 1% |
Myanmar | 44% | 40% | – 4% |
Tunisia | 28% | 25% | – 3% |
Bosnia and Herzegovina | 35% | 30% | – 5% |
Indonesia | 32% | 32% | no change |
Bangladesh | 37% | 35% | – 2% |
Serbia | 37% | 35% | – 2% |
Cambodia | 49% | 36% | – 13% |
Thailand | 36% | 36% | no change |
As countries continue to negotiate trade deals with the U.S., new rates will continue to be announced by the Administration leading up to the new self-imposed deadline, and the President may send more letters in the coming days and weeks.
The Security Industry Association (SIA) continues to track the tariff process and advocate on the industry’s behalf. We strongly encourage manufacturers and integrators to complete our surveys so that we can accurately assess the impact of these policies on our industry as a whole. Our most recent survey, released in June, is focused on the impact of tariffs on integrators. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Lauren Bresette, senior manager of government relations at SIA, at lbresette@securityindustry.org.
