What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

Don Young: Everon is a leading national integrator and premier service provider of commercial security, video, fire and life safety. We support more than 300,000 customer locations backed by our national strength and local knowledge of over 5,000 employees–including 2,300 technicians–across 100 offices and two dedicated monitoring and operations centers.

We are unique in that we provide commercial-grade systems for virtually all enterprises, regardless of size or system complexity. Across the board, we’re driven to create a new industry standard for customer-driven service excellence and delivery.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

DY: Everon is focused on scaling our business with operational discipline and a strong, customer-first mindset. We are committed to exceeding customer expectations and building long-lasting partnerships by prioritizing speed, quality, dependability and proactivity in every interaction. We believe we’ll continue to set ourselves apart in the industry by delivering on our commitment to provide customer service excellence—driven by a transformational, customer-driven culture, robust performance metrics and employees who feel empowered to resolve issues efficiently and confidently.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

DY: Powered by Experience. Driven by Excellence. That’s our company slogan, but also our mission—to provide expert-level commercial security, video, fire and life safety solutions that push the industry standard for customer service excellence to the next level. Everon is founded on an outstanding legacy of service excellence built over the last decade by some of the most trusted names in the business, including ADT Commercial, Protection 1 and Red Hawk Fire & Security.

We’re fueled by a customer-centric culture—one that ensures every action we take is focused on enhancing the customer experience. Our team is equipped with the knowledge, expertise and agility to proactively respond to customer needs. By streamlining processes, investing in meaningful technologies, and maintaining a strong commitment to consistent, efficient service delivery nationwide, our employees are driven to deliver excellence at every touchpoint.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

DY: We see a huge opportunity in the video space—from innovations in technologies, monitoring, analytics and more—and that’s where we’re primarily focused. We’re invested in establishing a multitiered video service solution to enhance overall security in enterprise-level organizations, helping to create opportunities for operational efficiency and provide greater context for commercial-grade security ecosystems and events through video. Furthermore, with the growing importance and demand in the industry for video verification methods, we’re significantly building our proficiency and confidence in both monitoring and capabilities to deliver video-based evidence and remote monitoring solutions for our customers.

There’s also no question that artificial intelligence (AI) presents tremendous opportunities for our business and the way our customers interact with us. In a number of ways, AI is on our current roadmap, and we’re beginning to see the value it can deliver—helping us optimize resources and free up our teams’ time to focus on creating more meaningful customer experiences.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

DY: We anticipate that the conversation around AI, and especially agentic AI, will have a growing and transformative impact on the security industry. In the short term, we’re already seeing opportunities within our own organization to leverage AI to optimize internal workflows, automate routine tasks, summarize customer interactions with greater accuracy and enhance the overall customer service experience through more intelligent, responsive support systems. By meaningfully leveraging AI internally and optimizing the time and resources of our people, we can ensure that the element of human interaction isn’t lost in the customer experience—freeing up our customer-facing employees to prioritize direct communication and relationship building.

Looking further ahead, the long-term influence of AI in commercial security will depend on a measured, strategic approach to adoption across the industry. As security inherently demands trust, reliability and accountability from end users and those who interact with their systems, investments in AI will need to be purposeful and aligned with real operational needs and in response to evolving threats. This disciplined approach will shape which technologies rise to prominence, favoring solutions that not only enhance situational awareness and threat detection—bringing forth a more proactive versus reactive model of response—but also respect ethical boundaries and deliver clear, proven value to end users.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

DY: We face the challenge of scaling our operational excellence to meet our growth, ensuring that we maintain a consistent and high-quality customer experience across the U.S. We’ve intentionally invested in business systems and technology platforms to support and scale with the growth of our organization— but we always want to ensure that our people and processes continue to evolve and keep pace with that growth. Internally, that can be achieved through increased, open communication across departments, allowing us to move efficiently, delivering with speed, quality, dependability and proactivity for our customers. We’re focused on achieving transparency and agility—both internally and in working with our customers—to create a differentiating service experience that sets us apart.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company—and in the security industry?

DY: As a first-time CEO, I’m deeply motivated by the opportunity to lead transformational change through technology and to build a culture where employees are energized by providing exceptional service to our customers.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

DY: In the security industry, I believe that staying connected to the broader professional community through active involvement in industry organizations isn’t just valuable—it’s vital, and SIA is a leader for our industry in so many ways. Over the past several decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving in various capacities across key security associations, including SIA, and that experience has played a central role in shaping both my career and my perspective on the evolving challenges we face as an industry.

Security is a rapidly changing field, influenced by everything from emerging threats and technology shifts to regulatory changes and geopolitical dynamics. Industry organizations provide a critical forum for collaboration, thought leadership and standard setting. They give professionals at all levels the opportunity to share insights, elevate best practices and strengthen the overall integrity and effectiveness of our work.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

DY: Along with the rest of our peers in SIA, emerging as leaders in the industry isn’t about visibility—it’s about a greater responsibility to our customers and the public who interact with our systems every day. We view this as an opportunity to take an active role in advancing the profession, mentoring the next generation of security leaders and ensuring that we’re collectively equipped to respond to the increasingly complex risks that face our industry. Whether it’s through shaping policy, advocating for higher, future-forward standards or driving innovation, leadership within the industry creates real momentum for progress.

Having spent decades contributing to this space, I’ve seen how powerful these connections and collaborations can be. When we lead, we don’t just influence the direction of our own organizations—we help move the entire industry forward.
