SIA New Member Profile: e-Track
New Security Industry Association (SIA) member e-Track is an intelligent key management supplier and manufacturer. The company is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, with operations that support clients across North America and service and technical support field-based engineer networks extending nationwide.
SIA spoke with Georgina Watters, vice president of sales at e-Track, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.
Tell us the story of your company.
Georgina Watters: Following five years of product innovation and core IP creation, including seven patents, e-Track was finally established in 2021 with a clear mission: to bring the next generation of electronic key and asset tracking, monitoring and incident response technology to organizations that needed greater visibility and control over their valuable assets.
Our father and son founders, Andy and Adam Smith, came from a background in the key management market (formally Keytracker) with deep operational process management, physical security, technology and system integration knowledge. They listened to the market and dug into how typical key management technology could be improved to transform business operations rather than just support them.
Real-time audit trails removing outdated paper logs are critical to modern businesses, but farming data to identify trends, risks and future demand via an e-Track system provides readily available and, importantly, much more useful digital insights that help business owners make easier, faster, smarter decisions and be less exposed to risk where physical keys are concerned.
What began as a specialist innovation project in the United Kingdom in 2016 with a small team of two business leaders and three engineers, has grown into a sophisticated, low-maintenance, high-performance product line that is transforming the landscape of key management and allowing organizations to easily level up using a simple, plug-and-play solution that delivers more bang for buck than any other product on the market.

Our platform brings together intelligence, automated alerts and detailed reporting into one unified system. This helps organizations protect assets, safeguard personnel and improve overall situational awareness.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?
GW: Creating a product line, although it requires funding, is achievable to most engineers who set their mind to it and can execute a relatively static plan over many painstakingly long years, but getting a direct match with clients in a busy commercial key management landscape is significantly more complex.
E-Track work directly with our customers to listen and learn from them about what would benefit them the most. By taking a client request, sense checking it with other market leaders and gathering a full understanding of the impact and value the solution could deliver, e-Track has created a long-term innovation roadmap that will continue to develop the market for many years to come. This will inevitably bring challenges to legacy competitors and therefore will help push the market forward and bring real impactful change to all users of key management systems, in whichever shape or form.
e-Track are not just in business to win—we’re here to share knowledge, bring new concepts, support customers and challenge competitors to do good for our industry.
What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?
GW: The industry is primed for innovation around data integration and real-time intelligence. As more organizations adopt connected devices and cloud-based systems, there are major opportunities to unify data streams and deliver actionable insights. Artificial intelligence and automation also offer tremendous potential, not to replace security professionals, but to enhance their speed, accuracy and effectiveness.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?
GW: In In the short term, we expect continued investment in hybrid physical–digital solutions that give organizations more operational flexibility. Progressing from no key control to electronic and from mechanical to electronic.
In the long term, security will increasingly become predictive and automated. Systems will work together more seamlessly, and security teams will rely heavily on analytics to guide decision making. Organizations that embrace interoperability and data-driven tools will be the ones best positioned for the future.
What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?
GW: The biggest challenge across the industry is navigating fragmented ecosystems of hardware and software. Many organizations rely on legacy systems that don’t provide for efficiency and are outdated or unsupported.
Furthermore, ensuring and maintaining security and privacy standards continues to be a time-consuming but necessary challenge. The diverse range of requests in customization also provides another challenge as technology moves forward rapidly, and so finding solutions that can seamlessly connect and share data with one another via APIs is absolutely necessary and no longer optional.
What do you enjoy most about being at your company—and in the security industry?
GW: We take pride in solving real-world problems that genuinely enhance safety and operational efficiency. The security industry is constantly evolving, and we enjoy being part of a community that values innovation, collaboration and real impact. Seeing how our solutions help clients protect people and assets is incredibly rewarding.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?
GW: SIA provides a valuable platform for education, industry connections and thought leadership. Being part of a community that sets standards and drives innovation is important to us as we continue to grow.
Through our SIA membership, we hope to expand partnerships, stay ahead of industry trends and contribute to conversations that shape the future of security.
How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?
GW: In the coming year, e-Track plans to deepen involvement through SIA events, training programs and committee participation. We intend to leverage member resources to support our team’s professional development and explore opportunities to contribute to working groups focused on technology, standards and innovation.
