SIA New Member Profile: Gloocel Innovations

SIA Member Profile: Gloocel, Steve Pineau, CEO

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Gloocel Innovations provides smart access for multi-residential and commercial buildings. The company is headquartered in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

SIA spoke with Steve Pineau, CEO of Gloocel, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Steve Pineau: Several years ago I was contacted by a security manufacturer looking for outside-the-box ideas for access control. When I presented the Gloocel concept, the manufacturer decided not to proceed since the new technology could disrupt their hardware focused business model. I personally thought there was an opportunity, so I decided to commercialize Gloocel myself.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

SP: Gloocel is a mobile-only system that doesn’t support cards. By eliminating the card requirement, there is no need for readers or control panels. Instead, we make the cloud the controller and replace control hardware with IP relays that are managed in the cloud.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

SP: The unique architecture of Gloocel allows us to provide functions that are difficult to provide with conventional systems. Some of these functions include providing intercom functions without requiring door panels and using mobile device biometrics for dual-factor authentication.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

SP: In the access control space the industry is going mobile. With mobile apps, it’s not just about opening doors—it’s also about new opportunities and revenue streams from proptech functionality for management. So there is also an opportunity for access control companies to become not just a hardware solution but a brand used by residents, employees and tenants everyday.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

SP: We value the research and publications provided by the association, as well as the opportunities provided through the ISC and other SIA events.

Additionally, we see value in engaging with SIA’s committees and working groups where appropriate, contributing our perspective on real-time intrusion prevention and integrator-focused security solutions. Our goal is to be an active, collaborative member—both learning from the community and contributing to its continued advancement.
