SIA Member Profile: IONODES Eric Tasso, CEO, IONODES

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member IONODES offers smart and connected video solutions designed to improve safety, security and business efficiency. The company is headquartered in Laval, Quebec, Canada, and supports more than 400 customers around the world.

SIA spoke with Eric Tasso, CEO of IONODES, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Eric Tasso: The company was founded in 2007 by a group of engineers passionate about video technology, myself included, who were deeply involved in the industry’s transition from analog video to IP-based systems. At the time, we came from different organizations focused on video ecosystems, intelligent edge devices and software platforms. What brought us together was a shared belief that the industry would benefit from accelerated innovation in video technology, particularly through an open-platform approach. Interoperability was a core principle from day one. We wanted to enable scalable, flexible, and powerful video systems rather than closed, proprietary solutions. With that foundation, evolving into the security industry was a very natural fit.

In 2010, I stepped into the role of CEO and began guiding both the company’s strategic vision and its technical roadmap. In our early days we collaborated with many different organizations around the world, developing the core IP video encoding and decoding technology behind some of the biggest names in the industry, under original equipment manufacturer (OEM) relationships. Our technology was adopted in specialty camera systems, robotics, unmanned vehicles and many more applications where our deep expertise in video systems became a unique competitive advantage.

As the company grew, our focus evolved. We transitioned from primarily developing OEM modules with advanced capabilities to delivering high-performance end-to-end solutions under an IONODES ecosystem of products and solutions. Today, these solutions include live video display solutions, connected mobile camera solutions and video gateway solutions all powered by our cloud-based video operations platform. This evolution not only strengthened the value we deliver but also allowed us to address customers’ needs more directly and play an active role in shaping the next generation of video security systems.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

ET: What sets us apart is our unique knowledge and passion for video technology which fuels our extensive track record of building interoperable and reliable solutions that are used by top-tier organizations around the world. Added to this is our commitment to designing and engineering our solutions entirely in North America, in order to meet the highest standards of quality and security that our customers expect. We do not rebrand or white‑label third‑party solutions. All of our solutions are built using open‑platform concepts, giving customers the flexibility to integrate them seamlessly within their existing environment. Above all, we place customer success at the core of everything we do, ensuring long‑term value and cultivating trusted partnerships.

Our solution portfolio is built around a powerful ecosystem of connected video technologies designed to enhance security, streamline operations and deliver actionable insights. The PERCEPT Body Camera brings advanced IoT capabilities to frontline teams with features such as live streaming, AI‑driven video analytics integrations, LTE and Wi‑Fi connectivity, secure VPN to on-premise systems, extensive sensor support, GPS tracking, and over 12 hours of battery life, all within an open‑platform architecture that integrates naturally into existing workflows, VMS, DEMS, and PSIM systems through ONVIF compatibility. Complementing this, our Secure Display Stations provide ultra‑compact IP video decoding for real‑time monitoring across diverse environments, eliminating the cost, complexity, and security risks associated with traditional client workstations. For organizations needing unified visibility across remote sites, the PERCEPT Gateway Solution allows secure sharing of live and recorded video through PERCEPT Cloud, connecting seamlessly to centralized VMS environments without replacing existing infrastructure. At the center of this ecosystem, PERCEPT Cloud serves as a Real‑Time Video Operations Platform and IoT device management layer, delivering true interoperability across video technologies with capabilities such as remote live streaming, real‑time device location tracking, centralized software updates, health monitoring and flexible integration with a wide network of technology partners. Together, these solutions form a scalable, interoperable platform that strengthens security operations while enabling smarter, data‑driven decision making.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

ET: Contrarily to what people might think, we are not a hardware company. What truly defines us is our deep expertise in software. Our success comes from the strength and maturity of our software stack and our ability to deliver powerful, reliable and integrated solutions across diverse environments.

Unlike traditional hardware‑driven organizations, we focus entirely on developing scalable and adaptable applications rather than building physical devices. This approach makes us platform‑agnostic by design. Although we will design hardware appliances for specific applications such as body worn cameras, our true strength lies in our software stack’s ability to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of systems, allowing us to pair it with whichever hardware best maximizes performance, security and scalability. Many organizations can build hardware, but only a few can elevate it with software that is truly scalable, high performing and innovative.

Our team excels at connectivity, interoperability and system integration—ensuring that our solutions fit effortlessly within complex, multi-platform ecosystems. At our core, we build the intelligence, the logic and the orchestration that give the hardware its value. In other words: we develop the purpose within the chassis.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

ET: We believe the future of the security industry lies in interoperability. The market is shifting from local, isolated, single‑purpose tools to connected ecosystems where purpose-built solutions from various technology innovators work seamlessly together to fulfill a need. No single vendor can deliver best‑in‑class capabilities across every category, which is why open architectures and flexible integrations are becoming essential. Our goal is to empower customers to choose the right tools for their needs while ensuring everything integrates smoothly.

Our mission goes beyond providing open platform mobile video, live display and gateway solutions. Through continued investment in our PERCEPT Cloud Video Operations Platform, we aim to serve as a catalyst for collaboration across the industry by enabling deeper insights, faster decision making and more proactive safety measures all while interconnecting technologies. Ultimately, we want to help organizations break down silos and create environments where teams can operate with greater clarity, coordination and confidence. This is how we see the future of security: interconnected, intelligent and open.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

ET: One of the most compelling opportunities emerging in the security industry is augmenting existing systems into powerful intelligence platforms. Bridging existing systems into modern video processing platforms that offer smart data segmentation and indexing and AI-driven enrichment, will allow organizations to extract meaningful insights, detect events of interest and simplify forensic search, without the need for costly rip-and-replace. The end result is that organizations can strengthen protection while simultaneously improving operational performance, streamlining processes and enabling smarter, more informed decision making across the organization, all while leveraging the value of their existing security investments.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

ET: We have been members of SIA for many years, and the association remains an important source of industry insight for us. We greatly value the high‑quality content SIA provides to its members. The articles, market research and webinars consistently help us validate the trends and developments we observe across the security landscape.

We also make strong use of SIA’s events and networking opportunities. For several years, IONODES has been exhibiting at ISC West and ISC East, and our presence at these events has allowed us to meet new partners and customers while strengthening our connections throughout the industry.
