SIA New Member Profile: Mobile Pro Systems

SIA Member Profile: Mobile Pro Systems Colin DePree, VP of sales and marketing, Mobile Pro Systems

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Mobile Pro Systems produces mobile security solutions allowing hardware such as security-related cameras, detection hardware and various communications technologies to be mounted and powered with its mobile platforms. The company is headquartered in West St. Paul, Minnesota, where its platforms are designed, engineered and manufactured entirely in the United States. Its deployed footprint spans North America, and the company supports a growing network of channel partners from local contractors to regional and national security integrators.

SIA spoke with Colin DePree, vice president of sales and marketing at Mobile Pro Systems, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Colin DePree: Mobile Pro Systems was founded in 2009 to solve a problem that fixed infrastructure simply couldn’t address: how do you extend security coverage to remote, unmanned and rapidly changing environments? Our founders were working directly with energy and critical infrastructure operators—utilities, substations, pipeline facilities—that needed video coverage in locations where running conduit and pouring concrete wasn’t practical or fast enough. Pan-tilt-zoom cameras mounted to buildings only went so far. We built our first mobile platforms to fill that gap, and we’ve been refining that mission ever since.

Over the past 15+ years, we’ve grown from a niche supplier into a recognized leader in mobile surveillance and power management—designing, manufacturing and deploying platforms across law enforcement, transit, campus security, construction and citywide safety programs. That growth is reflected in our expanded headquarters here in West St. Paul and a product line that continues to set the standard for what mobile security platforms should be capable of. The market has matured around the category we helped create, and that validation only reinforces what we’ve known since 2009: mobile surveillance isn’t a niche—it’s an essential part of a complete security strategy.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

CD: Mobile Pro Systems specializes in distributed surveillance platforms and power management solutions that enable security infrastructure to go where it’s needed most— beyond the built environment. Our trailer platforms and pole mount solutions are designed for rapid deployment, remote monitoring and reliable operation in challenging conditions.

What sets us apart is how we think about power and communications as the platform itself. We engineer integrated solar, battery and generator solutions that keep systems running in places where grid power isn’t available or reliable—because a security asset that goes offline isn’t protecting anything. That same philosophy carries into how we approach technology: our platforms are built to integrate, not lock customers in. Compatibility with leading video management systems and technology partners across automated license plate recognition, LiDAR and remote monitoring means customers deploy the tools that best fit their existing infrastructure. That combination of power independence and technology flexibility is what customers in law enforcement, utilities, transit and construction have come to rely on.

What is something we might not know about your company—or something new you are doing in security?

CD: We are focused on moving security beyond the built environment. There is a lot of talk about security for the built environment, but we approach security with an idea that security technology should be untethered. If there is a safety or security issue that needs to be addressed, the solution should not be tied to a specific software program or requirement to be deployed from a specific location. The issue should be resolved with the correct software and from the location that is required. We build our platforms to be technology-agnostic and deployable in multiple environments as your needs change.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

CD: For years the perimeter or edge of security has been driven by walls, fences and physical constructs. The future edge of security protection will be beyond physical barriers and will focus on covering spaces, corridors, routes and zones.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

CD: The biggest opportunities lie in bridging the gap between traditional, fixed security systems and the growing need for mobility and adaptability. As threats and operational requirements evolve, organizations need solutions that can be deployed quickly and reconfigured as situations change.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

CD: A main factor in joining SIA is their commitment to advocacy and growth of the security industry. Distributed infrastructure is still in the infancy stage, and we believe SIA can help drive awareness of the both the value and challenges that come with delivering safety and security beyond the built environment.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

CD: We hope to partner with SIA with education opportunities at ISC East and West, and we have multiple members that are participating in the RISE community’s Talent Inclusion Mentorship Education (TIME) mentoring program and attendees headed to Security LeadHER and other events.
