Security Industry Association and ISC Events present largest security trade show of the year

SILVER SPRING, MD – Attendance at ISC West 2013, which is produced by ISC Events and sponsored by the Security Industry Associaton (SIA), broke records this year. Tens of thousands of products from 1,000-plus exhibiting companies and brands resulted in packed aisles during the three-day show, which was held at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas April 10-12.

This year, virtually every segment of the security distribution channel was represented at the show, including dealers, specifiers, systems integrators and a large number of security end- users.

“We are pleased that our exhibitors and attendees were happy with the results from ISC West 2013,” said Ed Several, senior vice president at ISC Events. “With a 10.2% increase in attendance, expanded show floor area and increased exhibitor renewals for next year, the industry seems poised for a great year. We thank the security industry for showing such confidence in ISC West and thank you to our premier Association sponsor, the Security Industry Association for all their hard work and support.”

“I’ve been attending ISC West for many years now, and this year’s show was one of the best by far,” said Jay Hauhn, SIA’s Chairman. “The energy and level of excitement were unprecedented. Clearly, this is THE security show to attend, and the SIA and ISC teams did a great job on ISC West 2013.”

The SIA Education@ISC conference program consisted of 68 hours of programming over more than 60 intensive education sessions, presented in four tracks specific to the needs of integrators, installers, dealers, end users and others. The three-day program presented a curriculum of wide-ranging topics and technology discussions tied together by the theme, “Next Generation Security for the Next Generation Professional.”

New in 2013 was a four-part School Safety Series focusing on K-12 and higher education campus security, which included two Learning Labs — workshop-styled sessions in which participants practiced what they learned. In one lab, participants learned all about electric latch retraction devices; In the second, participants designed a structured cabling solution for IP camera installations.

The SIA New Product Showcase (NPS) saw increased entries this year. Twenty-two companies entered 86 products for consideration in 27 categories. The Lynx from Innovative Security Design took the top, winning the coveted Best New Product Award at the NPS Awards Ceremony on April 10, while 3M Cogent took the Judges’ Choice Award for their MiY-Touch indoor biometric touch screen.

“We are very pleased with the number of cutting-edge products entered into this year’s SIA New Product Showcase, and with the very positive response to the quality education provided through the SIA Education@ISC conference,” commented Don Erickson, SIA’s CEO . “On behalf of myself and the SIA Education team, I would like to thank the ISC Education Advisory Committee for their strong guidance in developing such an exceptional program.”

SIA also announced new members of its Executive Committee of the SIA Board of Directors during the show. John Stroia, COO of the Will-Burt Company, was announced as the Chairman-Elect and will assume office at the SIA Annual Membership Meeting in November. Denis Hebert, President and CEO of HID Global, was announced as Treasurer. Scott Schafer, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing at Arecont Vision, becomes SIA Secretary.
