SIA Member Profile: Johnson Yang, Vice President of Sales, Plustek Security

Security Industry Association (SIA)

How did you get into the Security Industry?

Plustek started its business since 1986. The major business is a professional scanner manufacturer that provides a variety of scanner product lines. It includes general consumer scanners, professional document and film scanners, as well as various embedded and standalone scanners. Plustek believes embedded software solutions would be the trend of future, especially when ARM CPUs are getting powerful and efficient. Therefore, the company stepped into the security industry around 4 years ago, hoping to gain leverage from Plustek’s embedded expertise for security products. I have been in the software business for nearly a decade, and I hope to contribute my experiences and integrate them into Plustek’s future plan.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

As a VP of Sales in Plustek Security, I really enjoy providing a unique solution to our partners and clients, especially when a security solution has our product in it. We believe that the standalone solution will be adopted more and more in the security industry, and it is great that Plustek is one of those companies.

What’s your prediction for the biggest trend that will take place in the security industry in 2013?

Even though CCTVs are still in the market and it won’t fade out quickly. Most new installations will be considering IP base solutions because I think more IP surveillance and integrations will be pursued. In this demand, I think many embedded solutions will start following this trend. We have not only known about advantages of the embedded system, but we also have a lightweight yet more secure platform that is perfect for “recording at the edge”.

What is your biggest challenge?

I think the biggest challenge is using the limited resources to build optimized results, in both products and business points of view. IP video started not too long ago and the complicity holds back many possible opportunities. Plustek will not only need to continue rolling out professional grade product lines, but also integrating other solutions would be the key to meeting tomorrow’s surveillance needs.

Building up a new business is always a challenge. Fulfilling and satisfying customers’ needs are the basic goals. Listening to feedback will help us plan for future requirements, which will be made into our final products, making Plustek’s path grow.

What does your organization receive from membership in SIA that you’d like to share with others?

SIA provides a great platform from all angles and purposes of the security industry. It is also a great place for education, collaboration and implementation. We hope to share our focused experiences to all members and clients.

Did you attend the ISC West show?

Yes, Plustek exhbited at ISC West booth #1045 and announced a brand new powerful 880 series of NVRs. We enjoyed showcasing our lineup of Embedded Edge Recorders and Encoders solutions to all!
