Tell us the story of your company.

JS: Senseon is an innovation of Accuride International – the world’s foremost manufacturer of movement solutions. Accuride was founded in the Los Angeles, California, area in 1958 by longtime engineer Fred Jordan.

Since its founding, Accuride has expanded its reach across the globe with manufacturing centers in six countries. In working with our customers, we found a great deal of them struggled to integrate security into their cabinetry, often defacing their designs with cumbersome locks and keypads. As constant innovators, we sought to find a way in which security could seamlessly integrate into new or existing fixtures – the result: Senseon. We officially launched in North America in 2016 as a provider of integrated cabinet locking solutions. Our systems offer a future-proof solution for businesses and homeowners looking to enhance their security access control, down to the finest details.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

JS: Senseon systems give you streamlined control over cabinet security. With wireless access and a wide range of lock styles for enterprise and standalone applications, we help secure businesses where it matters most. Our low-voltage components and systems give users and integrators freedom from key management, rekeying and battery maintenance.

Additionally, our dedicated team of engineers, product specialists and designers work tirelessly in leveraging our 60 years of know-how to create the best solutions for you. From analyzing design blueprints to facilitating onsite consultations, we go the extra mile for your security.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

JS: Senseon Plus – our latest innovation – is an intelligent cabinet-level access control system that combines the robust functionality of Senseon electronic locks with cloud-based audit trail software. This standalone system puts the control in your hands by enabling you to build high-end, intelligent cabinetry without cumbersome traditional locks. It is composed of commercial-grade modular components that install seamlessly into any new or existing feature.

Where some locking systems, like our Senseon Core solution, connect to existing access control systems, Senseon Plus is self-contained. The standalone nature of the system simplifies installation and programming, so when the finished fixture is delivered, it is ready for use. This simple nature makes it easy for integrators and installers to train their customers on how to program the system.

Senseon Plus uses a robust audit trail software to help end users increase productivity and create efficient work environments. The software shows who opened what, when they opened it and how long they had it open. We also equipped the system with a handheld programmer for programming user access, downloading actionable audit trail data and configuring dual authorization, discrete access, auto relocking and alarm and alert features.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

JS: We believe that security is about more than keeping valuables safe. Security is the control and freedom to explore, knowing that your valuables are always protected. Security is trusting a team to support and guide you along your journey. Finally, security is innovating and moving forward, even when others settle for less.

At Senseon, our mission is to help you reimagine what’s possible. We put the power in your hands, letting you create, track and manage what matters to you. We believe beauty is in the details, from how you showcase products to how you track activity. We’re driven by the idea that powerful technology can be simple and shift ideas, creating new perspectives. For us, security is more than just a feature or an outcome – it’s the heart of everything we do. We want to align ourselves with the leaders in the access control ecosystem to drive innovation in the security industry.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

JS: We are currently looking at essential markets and industries, such as cannabis, cellular business and other high-value/high-touch retail. We believe our touch-release and auto-open features will be a necessity in mitigating the transfer of infectious diseases. One particular application we’re looking at is self-serve kiosks. With these kiosks, customers can scan a barcode or enter a code to access their merchandise. Our Senseon Core solution can integrate into the kiosk’s internal infrastructure.

Health care is another area we see as an opportunity. The coronavirus pandemic has also exposed a litany of health care issues, from unnecessary waste of personal protective equipment to compliance issues with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 as well as the Joint Commission. In the security industry, we can mitigate some of these issues with innovative solutions that reduce touchpoints and provide more precise tracking.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

JS: The industry as a whole will need to adapt to the “new normal.” Security technology will have to innovate to meet previously unheard-of customer demands. We believe this innovation can happen through more collaboration between manufacturers, integrators and customers. In doing so, we will generate long-term synergy to drive change.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

JS: The biggest challenges we have faced as of late, like everyone else, stem from the COVID-19 pandemic. One problem we see in the industry is the effort to mitigate infectious disease transfer through touchless solutions. We see one potential solution in our auto-open feature, which pops drawers and doors open with just a tap of a valid credential and provides users streamlined access to secured contents.

Another challenge in the industry is navigating compliance regulations in health care, finance and cannabis environments to avoid fines. These regulations set by HIPAA, the Joint Commission and others give solutions providers and integrators a powerful opportunity to drive innovation. In doing so, we’ll help ensure the end customer is compliant and efficient in their daily operations.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

JS: Being relatively new to the security industry, we appreciate having regular opportunities to connect with industry personnel through virtual and in-person events like ISC West. SIA also allows us to stay up to date with industry trends and standards through forums, webinars and blogs. We are hoping to leverage our SIA connections to create synergy with our peers in the security industry.
