SIA New Member Profile: TLab West AB

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member TLab West AB is a development company with special expertise in the area of advanced security systems that offers products and services for the global security market. The company is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with local offices in Orebro and Sundsvall, and serves customers in the Nordic countries and other parts of Europe.

SIA spoke with JP Gardshol, CEO of TLab West, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

JG: TLab West was founded in the year 2000 by a group of individuals with extensive experience working in the security business. The goal was to address an unmet demand in the consultancy field by combining experience and competence with technical expertise.

Strong relationships were established with several of the largest players in the business, which has resulted in several large and trust-based partnerships. With this as a base, TLab West has emerged from a traditional consultancy company with special expertise in advanced security systems to a company that can also offer a wide range of in-house developed security products.

TLab West has over many years reported good growth and profitability. 2010 Dagens Industri appointed us a Gazelle Company; fewer than than 1% of Swedish companies receive this award.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

JG
: TLab West is offering products and services in the areas of access control, burglar alarms, identity and access management systems and integrated management systems for security.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

JG: Since more than two decades, TLab has been one of Sweden’s and Scandinavia’s leading businesses within the IT/surveillance/security sector, with product lines ranging all the way from dedicated hardware to large-scale integration software platforms.

TLab products are installed at many of the most prestigious and demanding security installations in the Nordic countries.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

JG: TLab West’s vision is “Together with our customers, our goal is to develop the world’s leading and most successful security systems.” To achieve this vision, we partner with the biggest international players on the market.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

JG: We believe that the ongoing digitalization in all markets will also have a big impact on the security industry. Companies will need to manage, automate and streamline security identities, compliance and events across disparate physical security systems. The demand will grow for open solutions where customers can mix different brands in the same integrated solutions.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

JG: The main reason for us to be a member of SIA is to closely follow the development of new standards and also have the opportunity to influence that development.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

JG: To participate in meetings and hopefully be able to join some events.
