SIA New Member Profile: VOLT AI

VOLT AI co-founders Egor Olteanu and Dmitry Sokolowski

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member VOLT AI works to use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and stop violence using a real-time video intelligence system designed for security teams. The company is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, with a footprint across North America.

SIA spoke with Egor Olteanu, VOLT AI CEO and co-founder, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Egor Olteanu: VOLT AI traces its roots back to the long-standing friendship between me and Dmitry Sokolowski, in which we shared a vision of leveraging technology for public safety. When I – with my  background in the U.S. Army – and Dmitry, a computer science graduate, came together to develop a real-time video intelligence system system aimed at preventing violence through artificial intelligence. Our journey was fueled by personal experiences, including my service in the Middle East and experience with Google X and Dmitry’s involvement in engineering projects for tech giants Amazon, Apple and Uber. The catalyst for our venture was a tragic shooting incident at YouTube’s headquarters in 2018, highlighting the urgent need for innovative solutions to address escalating threats worldwide.

With a deep understanding of both military and technological landscapes, Dmitry and I founded VOLT AI in 2019 with a mission to utilize AI as a force multiplier for security, ultimately aiming to safeguard lives. Our product, launched in 2022, quickly garnered attention and found application across various sectors, including Fortune 500 companies, schools and industrial facilities. VOLT’s approach, blending cutting-edge technology with a commitment to public safety, underscores our dedication to making a tangible difference in the world by mitigating risks and protecting communities from harm.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

EO: VOLT AI is real-time video intelligence designed for security teams who never want to miss an incident again. Unlike other solutions that focus on individual camera analytics, VOLT unifies your existing systems, allowing for visual tracking of people and objects across various locations on an intuitive 3D map. VOLT provides one-click access to critical information, streamlining the incident management process and transforming weeks of work into instant, actionable insights.

What’s something we might not know about your company – or something new you’re doing in security?

EO: Over the last few years, VOLT AI has been building a new kind of technology for physical security with unique capabilities that stand apart from traditional AI camera models. The VOLT AI Perception System represents a cutting-edge approach in the field of physical security and operations management. At its core, it’s an advanced artificial intelligence system designed to enhance surveillance and security measures beyond the capabilities of traditional systems by fusing signals across hundreds or thousands of security devices, such as cameras, to create a comprehensive understanding of space in time.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

EO: Implementing advanced technologies such as AI/machine learning has already changed numerous industries, and we believe that the security industry is going through the same change right now. This opened up tremendous opportunities for the security leaders to do more with less and be more in control of their environments than ever before.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

EO: The advancements in AI will shift the traditional “guns, guards and gates” paradigm as the security industry will move toward real-time and proactive operations. Similarly, cloud will enable consolidation of distributed security operations into a single virtual global security operations center. With real-time insights into their global operations, security leaders will be able to reassess risk profiles of their facilities and reallocate resources to optimize utilization.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

EO: We firmly believe that innovation happens at the intersection of engineers’ product vision and their deep knowledge of the customers’ challenges. As such, we constantly exchange ideas with security professionals who – similarly to us – are interested in doing things better, cheaper and faster with the help of technology. In that regard, the SIA community seems to be a natural fit in terms of both the level of engagement and intellectual rigor of its members, and we’re looking forward to meeting you all.
