LiveU Business Development Director of Public Safety Joseph Yaker

Joseph Yaker: We are a leading provider of mission-critical, real-time video solutions for public safety, enabling effective situational awareness, response management and command and control communications.  As the pioneers of bonded IP video, we are experts in enabling the safe transport of mission-critical audio, video and data across wire-free networks. Our patented LiveU Reliable Transport (LRT) bonding technology uses a diverse range of connections (including cellular 4G/5G, LEO satellite, Wi-Fi and Ethernet) to create a very resilient, secure and high-quality link between the incident scene and command and control centers.

Rapid deployment, ease of use and mobility are core elements of our solution. To this, we have added specific capabilities to optimize mission performance across situational awareness, manned and unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, command and control, visual intelligence, decision-making scenarios and more.  By combining video encoding and decoding, resilient connectivity and collaboration tools into one intuitive solution, LiveU removes complexity and increases dependability.

Our fully supported solutions deliver reliable, high-quality, real-time video so first responders, defense forces and public safety professionals can stay focused on the mission instead of the technology.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

JY: Tailored for mobility, LiveU’s portable and lightweight live transmission solutions empower defense and public safety organizations with real-time, location-independent connectivity.

LiveU solutions serve as the cornerstone, enabling the reliable transmission of video/data feeds from various sources like uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), uncrewed ground vehicles (UGV), helicopters, dash cams and body cams to any destination. Leveraging LRT, LiveU’s proprietary IP bonding technology, it guarantees the consistent transmission of live video from any ground, water or aerial location back to command centers or any designated device. This capability is vital for bolstering the organization’s mission, ensuring dependable video transmission from anywhere on the planet.

LiveU’s On Premise Software offerings grant organizations complete control over their video feeds at all times. Integration into existing workflows is seamless, enabling efficient video management within the organization. For added security, customizable encryption options are available upon request, ensuring the utmost protection of sensitive data.

At the heart of the system are video encoders that bond different types of connections together – cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, satellite – to create a bigger “pipeline” that helps enable reliable connections no matter the location. The video signal is compressed and pieced up to make use of those various potential transmission routes. If one becomes unavailable, it automatically determines the best alternative and switches. At its destination the stream is reassembled, much like the transporter from Star Trek, into viewable video with just milliseconds of latency.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

JY: LiveU is now offering resilient low-latency, high-quality video streaming and connectivity solutions to the physical safety and security markets. LiveU is simplifying the ability acquire, contribute and share reliable video for situational awareness, common operating picture and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

JY: Our vision is to set the mission-critical bonded IP-video solutions standard for a safer world. We provide easy-to-use, easy-to-share, real-time visual intelligence for situational awareness, informed decisioning and enhanced operational collaboration from anywhere, right the first time, every time.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

JY: Real-time video surveillance has become crucial in security and defense operations. Unlike traditional surveillance systems that rely on recorded footage, real-time video monitoring leverages advanced technologies such as video content analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically analyze and detect events as they occur.

Real-time video surveillance not only enhances security, but also contributes to operational efficiency and safety. Organizations can benefit from instantaneous visibility, proactive threat detection and improved decision making by leveraging these advanced monitoring systems.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

JY: Video is one of the primary contribution technologies to any situational awareness platform. The video surveillance market is expected to grow significantly, driven by technological advancements, security needs, and the adoption of AI-powered solutions. LiveU solutions allow secure video transmission from various sources, including UAS, UGV, helicopters, dash cams and body cams.

Officers can view high-quality, low-latency live drone footage in command centers and on mobile devices, improving tactical decision making – a clear need that will expand and grow parallel to the market needs.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

JY: Always active, always something new, working the magic behind the scenes to make that video flow everywhere in real time and through the process contribute to safeguard lives all over the world.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

JY: First of all, being part of the SIA family and having the opportunity to cooperate and explore potential partnerships within the association is a huge value to us. Furthermore, to expand and reach out to new potential partners such as government prime contractors, homeland security system integrators as well as direct law enforcement organizations is important for our growth in the market. Also becoming more engrained in the organization and participating as a SIA member in their relevant events, conferences and networking reunions will help us expand our reach from the marketing perspective as part of our brand awareness efforts.

SIA is a prestigious global security trade association with ties to many of the top public safety and security agencies in the world. We wanted to align with an organization that shares our vision of providing simple and effective solutions that can impact the greater good and shape the future of the security industry.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

JY: We plan to participate in industry events, brainstorms and meetings to help bring awareness to the association and its members. We look forward to the partnership and working together to create and enhance solutions for the public security market.
