Veterans Connect: A Look at How One SIA Member Company Honors Service

Katie Bourbeau is executive director, federal and aerospace/defense, at Convergint and a member of the SIA Veterans in Security Advisory Board. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an aviation logistics officer.

Honoring veterans should be more than a statement of appreciation—it should be a deeply rooted commitment reflected in how a company hires, supports and celebrates those who have served.

At Convergint, our Veterans Connect group is powered entirely by passionate volunteers and driven by a clear mission: Recognize, connect and celebrate veterans. The group provides a supportive community where veterans and allies can meet, share experiences and help strengthen the company’s culture of respect and inclusion.

Veterans Connect is open to all Convergint colleagues, whether they are veterans, are related to a veteran or are simply passionate about supporting the veteran community. Participation is encouraged across the organization, an inclusive approach that ensures that meaningful support extends beyond those who served to the broader community.

The impact of Veterans Connect is far-reaching. Veterans bring invaluable leadership, discipline, adaptability, and mission-focused thinking to the workplace, and Veterans Connect aligns with Convergint’s HR team to support transitioning military as they move into civilian careers, helping them navigate professional pathways and adjust to new environments. The group also provides education and resources related to veteran programs and benefits, ensuring that vets and their families have access to critical information. In addition, the group collaborates with and supports external veteran organizations.

One of the most visible and meaningful ways that the company honors its veterans is through the Walls of Honor located in Convergint Technology Centers across the country. These displays pay tribute to veteran colleagues, recognizing their service and sacrifice and preserving their stories.

Through intentional hiring practices, dedicated volunteer leadership, and heartfelt recognition, Convergint works to honor veterans’ service while empowering their success in the next chapter of their careers.
