Strong member retention numbers reflect SIA’s dedication to the industry

Silver Spring, MD — The Security Industry Association (SIA) is proud of the loyalty shown by its members, as demonstrated in the most recent survey to assess the needs of members and measure their satisfaction levels with its benefits and services.

When asked if they would recommend SIA to a friend or colleague, 98% of SIA members who responded to the 2012 member survey said yes.

“98% is an amazing level of confidence in the association by our members,” said SIA’s CEO Don Erickson. “This is the third year in a row SIA members have said almost unanimously that they would recommend SIA to a colleague, and these consistently high numbers reflect SIA’s dedication to serving our members and the industry.”

“SIA demonstrates the value of membership in action,” said Kevin Murphy, SIA’s director of member services. “ As a growing organization, SIA more than doubled new memberships in 2011, adding 85 new member companies, compared to 42 in 2010. Moreover, SIA consistently averages an extraordinarily high 88% member retention rate.”

According to the 2012 member survey, 86.3% of respondents said they are satisfied or very satisfied with SIA, up slightly from 83.1% in 2010.

The proportion of members who said SIA membership has had a direct impact on their business increased significantly, from 28% in 2010 to 41.6% in 2012.

SIA Publications appear to be a significant driver of membership value, with 74.8% saying SIA publications, such as the SIA Update, are of value to them. More than half of the members surveyed said Standards, ISC Exhibition discounts, and the SIA Membership Directory provided value to their membership.

“One of my priorities since I became chairman of the Security Industry Association Board of Directors has been to increase our collaboration with other security associations,” Jay Hauhn, Chairman of the SIA Board of Directors, wrote in a recent blog. Respondents said they are very interested in seeing SIA collaborate with other organizations, and 53.5% of those responding said such programming would add value to the services SIA offers.

“SIA is not content to rest on our laurels in response to very positive member feedback,” said Erickson. “We are continuously striving to increase our relevancy to our members and industry stakeholders, and we have a number of new initiatives in development that we expect to launch within the next few months. We believe these new programs offer clear value to our members and will increase their participation within SIA.”
