Security Market Index: January/February 2021 Edition

SIA Security Market Index report cover (January/February 2021)

Security technology industry's market confidence report finds a slight dip in the new year but optimism for the months ahead

Provided to Security Industry Association (SIA) members as a review of current market conditions, the January/February 2021 Security Market Index (SMI) shows that the security industry's outlook dipped slightly at the start of the new year, with a SMI of 44. In November/December 2020, the SMI of 54 was the highest it had been since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. An index above 50 indicates that conditions within the industry are largely positive and that security industry professionals are predominantly confident in their business outlooks. Additionally, within the next three months, 75% of respondents believe business conditions will be "much" or "a little" better. Special focuses of SIA’s January/February 2021 SMI include:
  • Wavering confidence in the video surveillance sector
  • Continued optimism within the integrator sector
  • Predictions on when business travel will resume in 2021
