SIA Support Letter for S. 379

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has expressed strong support for S. 379, which would allow beneficiaries to use 529 plan funds to cover expenses associated with obtaining a post-secondary credential. This legislation would strengthen the nation’s labor force by allowing individuals to have greater flexibility in pursuing educational and career development opportunities.

In a letter to Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), SIA CEO Don  Erickson praised the bill, emphasized SIA’s initiatives to address the security skills gap within the industry and proposed amendments to the legislation that would include expenses necessary to obtain or maintain certification or licensure credentials that are separate from preparatory educational and training programs.
