SIA Membership: You Don’t Need to Be Einstein to Understand Value

V = A + I + C (P)

Well, this equation might not have the same impact as E=mc2, but it does have more relevance for your business, relatively speaking. It’s the equation we use to provide perspective on how we create value for belonging to the Security Industry Association (SIA).

The value of SIA, as a membership organization, is discovered in a number of areas:

  • Filling your gaps in information or research
  • Fulfilling needs in the industry
  • Influencing federal policies
  • Making connections for you
  • Harnessing and leveraging the knowledge and insight within member companies
  • Advancing the security industry for all

But let’s take a step back and look beyond the obvious and break down how we arrive at this value equation: Value = Aggregate + Integrate + Create x Participate or V = A + I + C (P).

First variable in our equation: We aggregate. As defined, SIA “forms a whole” by combining several—typically disparate and oftentimes competitive—security businesses into a membership body.

As such, this SIA Membership body consists of very large transnational corporations to mid-sized companies to even relatively smaller firms. Our member companies are in the government space, as well as commercial and residential markets. They are in hardware and software. They manufacture; they distribute; they integrate; and they provide service solutions. SIA Members exist throughout the sales-to-service channel.

And no matter the size of the member company, SIA capitalizes on a few compelling attributes found throughout the SIA Membership. This is our “special sauce” of membership.
Prospective members are attracted to SIA because they see that:

  • SIA Members are innovative and creative.
  • SIA Members are resilient and business savvy.
  • SIA Members have a culture of learning and embrace change.

And when you read the various industry rankings and lists of top security companies published by leading trade magazines, you will routinely see a preponderance of SIA Members.

Coincidence? Not really. Like a magnet, winners attract winners.
