A Trade Mission to Africa for the Security Industry

Security Industry Association (SIA)

The International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce offers a unique opportunity to the security industry through its business development missions. The next mission is coming up March 4-12, 2015, and the application deadline is Jan. 15, 2015.

So what is a business trade mission? In this case, the International Trade Administration will lead U.S. firms in the safety and security industry to the countries of Morocco, Algeria and Egypt to find business partners to sell products and services in North Africa. To support the Safety and Security Mission to Morocco, Algeria and Egypt, the agency is seeking the participation of businesses that provide safety and security services as well as trade associations promoting U.S. safety and security products and services.

“The mission will help participating firms and associations gain market insights, make industry contacts, solidify business strategies and advance specific projects, with the goal of increasing U.S. exports of products and services to Morocco, Algeria and Egypt,” according to the International Trade Association.

While participating in the mission, business leaders will engage in one-on-one business appointments with potential customers, agents, distributors and joint venture partners—all of whom have been prescreened. They also will meet with state and local government officials and industry leaders and attend networking events. Companies traveling in an official U.S. industry delegation will find invaluable support from the International Trade Administration versus traveling on their own, the agency said.

In addition, industry participants will receive:

  • Expert briefings: U.S. commercial officials will brief you on the opportunities and challenges in each market.
  • Business matchmaking: You can connect with potential partners, prescreened by the U.S. government, and attend trade events with industry and government decision makers.
  • Exclusive networking receptions: You can attend networking receptions with local industry and government leaders.

Our own Richard Brent, CEO of Louroe Electronics, recently participated in a trade mission to Latin America, and he was extremely pleased with the new business opportunities he discovered on the trip. “As a result of my participation in the trade mission, I was able to successfully identify five new pilot projects for Louroe that will focus on improving public safety throughout Mexico City and Monterrey,” he told the Department of Commerce earlier this year.
