SIA New Member Profile: Cisco Meraki
The Security Industry Association (SIA) welcomes aboard Cisco Meraki, video surveillance innovators who made a big splash at ISC West 2017 last week.
To learn more about the company and its history, SIA chatted with Emily DeSimone, Cisco Meraki Event Marketing Coordinator.
How did you get into the security industry?
Cisco Meraki is focused on a mission of simplifying IT. We started out with switching, wireless, and network security—more conventional networking products—but realized that the same unnecessary complexity existed in other products connected to the network. This led us to develop and release an IP security camera this year (the MV product line). The camera is easy to configure and manage with a revolutionary architecture.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Meraki takes a problem-solving approach when developing new products. We try to avoid building features based off what our competitors are doing, and instead try to take a fresh look at the problem before finding a solution. This means we get to exercise our creativity and create exciting products.
What’s your company’s biggest challenge right now?
We’re new to the industry, so we’re working on fully understanding our customers’ needs. We’ve done a great job at building out the foundation of the platform that we’ll now build upon to solve the more specific problems our customers face.
What trends does your company foresee for the security industry in the next year?
There may be a shift to try to simplify and fortify security camera systems. Customers are asking for a more manageable solution, but with the recent networking attacks on other camera systems, robust security can’t be forgotten either!
What does your organization receive from membership in SIA? How do you plan to be active in the association in the near future?
We receive discounts for participating at the ISC events, sponsorship opportunities for the SIA GovSummit conference in June and Securing New Ground conference in the fall. We also get access to networking events, and research materials.
Will your company participate in an upcoming event with SIA such as ISC West, New Product Showcase or Government Summit? If so, what aspect of the event appeals most to your company?
Cisco Meraki participated in ISC West 2017. We’re excited to attend events with knowledgeable attendees. Since MV just launched in October 2016, we want to introduce our new architecture to the industry and show them the Meraki magic!
