Video: Why We Need Legislative Changes to Help Prevent Domestic Drone Attacks

Are Drones the New Domestic Threat?

While uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) offer tremendous benefits, they also pose security risks across various sectors, including military, homeland security, critical infrastructure, law enforcement, borders, VIP protection and maritime operations. Addressing these security risks while safeguarding our society is constant theme within the efforts of the Security Industry Association (SIA) Counter-UAS Working Group.

Will it take a major incident for legislative and policy changes to be made so that counter-drone measures can prevent attacks on critical infrastructure, mass public gatherings and other soft targets? In this video, Brett Feddersen, vice president of strategy and government affairs at D-Fend Solutions and chair of the SIA Counter-UAS Working Group, and Dawn M.K. Zoldi, a licensed attorney with 28 years of combined active-duty military and federal civil service to the U.S. Air Force and CEO and founder of P3 Tech Consulting, highlight the current threat landscape and advocate for why policy changes need to be strongly considered.

Feddersen and Zoldi were part of a panel session at the 2024 SIA GovSummit on the topic of countering hostile drone threats. Learn key takeaways from that session here.
